WWCFL (recap): Opening weekend a success for Fearless, Valkyries & Rage

Week 1 of the Western Women’s Canadian Football League (WWCFL) is in the books. Here is a recap:

Saskatoon Valkyries 36, Regina Riot 6

Julie David (filling in for injured Julie Paetsch) ran for 185 yards on 16 carries and 2 TDs as the defending champion Saskatoon Valkyries continued their winning ways. The Valkyries got touchdowns from Katie Miyazaki, and receivers Amber Buchholz and Jana Spindler. The Regina Riot showed great improvement from last season.

Manitoba Fearless 36, Winnipeg Nomads-Wolf Pack 22

Fearless running back Sandra Martinez scored on touchdown runs of 90 and 78 yards.
Roxanna Cox scored a touchdown run in her first ever tackle game for the Fearless.
Cox also had TD tosses of 40 to Haley Peloquin and 20 yards to Melissa Denisiuk. Running back Jill Fast scored on a 20-yard TD for the Wolf Pack.

Calgary Rage 14, Edmonton Storm 0
