
The Maritime football league kicked off on Friday night in Saint-John and another game on Saturday afternoon in Halifax. Both games were played at a good level. The league once again showed its exceptionnal talent and left fans anxious for next weekend.
The Saint-John Wanderers were seen by many as the favorites coming into this season, the wanderers left there fans feeling quite confident as they took care of Business on Friday night.
Here is the results of Week 1 in the MFL:

Saint-John Wanderers 33 , Capital Area Gladiators 7
The Saint-John Wanderers came out hard on Friday night, The Wanderers defence was as expected, very physical and experienced. They caused turnovers various times and frustrated the Gladiators offence as they haulted many of their Marches. On the other side of the ball, veteran Quarterback Jon Galacki Moved the ball for the Wanderers all night. The wanderers were good on the ground and taking lots of time off the clock. The final score was 33 – 7 in favor of the Wanderers when it was all said and done. The Wanderers touchdown’s came from : Jon Galacki , Charlie Harroun , Jon Haines and Ryan Crouse added 2.
Saint-John defensive linemen Matthew Porter was pleased with his teams all around effort.
“It was nice to come out tonight and proved to ourselves what we can do when we come together as a team, We have been working hard in practice and we are coming together as a unit”.
Porter also mentionned that the defence really held there ground and worked together to hold Capital Area to only one score. He gave credit to the Gladiators who did not make it easy on them.
“They are a good football team, they worked hard and kept coming untill the final whistle”.
Halifax Shockers 26, Moncton Mustangs 0
The Halifax Shockers sent a message to the Maritime football league on Saturday afternoon as they knocked off 5 time defending champion Moncton Mustangs 26-0. The Shockers defence proved to be up to the Task as they kept Quarterback Kelly Nichols from getting his Offence in the end zone. The Shockers began the game with Momentum and kept it goin all game long. They scored early in the game and there defence came up with big plays when they needed them. The Shockers offence looked very solid and used both their running and passing games to their advantage.
The Mustangs did however make some big plays but simply failed to finish their drives.
Mustangs Offensive lineman Bob Giffard said that the Mustangs have learned alot from the loss and will be a different team come next friday as the Mustangs will Face the Saint-John Wanderers.
“We know what Saint-John is capable of doing, they looked good in the preseason, we were clearly not ready for the Shockers, We wont make the same mistake next weeked”.

Two games are slated for the Weekend as they Saint-John Wanderers visit the Moncton Mustangs on Friday night. Game time is 8 pm at Rocky stone and the saturday game will feature the Halifax Shockers making their way to Fredericton to visit the Gladiators. Game time is 4pm at Scotia South field.
