Over the course of the next few months, Peter Godber has a lot to think about regarding the next chapter of his football career.
The 6’4, 290 pound Ontario offensive lineman with the St. Andrew’s College Saints of the Canadian Independent Schools Athletic Association (CISAA) has a lot to consider as Baylor and Rice have given him scholarship offers. Baylor’s offer came at the end of March while Rice contacted him just last week.
“The Baylor offer was done mostly through them talking to my coaches because there was an NCAA blackout period at the time,” explains Godber of how the offers came to fruition. “I got the offer from Rice through a phone call from the head coach.”
With all the good fortune that has taken place during the past few months, the Saints offensive lineman is thrilled with the recent turn of events but knows the decision process won’t be easy.
“I was ecstatic when I received the calls from the coaches at Rice University and Baylor University telling me they wanted to offer me a scholarship,” comments Godber. “Baylor and Rice are two incredible universities with outstanding academics along with storied football teams.”
“I consider both those schools dream schools and itβs going to be a difficult process deciding what school suits me best.”

Saints head coach Len Gurr is equally happy of the news the offensive lineman has been courted by the two NCAA schools.
“Given that he’s such a fantastic young man, his success has been quite rewarding for me on a personal level,” says Gurr. “Both Baylor and Rice are outstanding football programs and exceptional academic institutions.”
“Knowing he already has official offers from those two schools in only his grade 11 year speaks volumes about his talent, character, and work ethic.”
On the field, Godber is one of the top offensive lineman this nation has seen. However, it’s the intangibles he brings that make him a truly special, yet gifted player.
“Peter epitomizes the very best attributes of offensive line play,” summarizes the Saints head coach of Godber’s playing style. ” He’s a master technician who takes great pride in refining his skills, plays with a nasty edge and he finishes his blocks better than any offensive linemen I’ve ever coached.”
“What’s so special about Peter though is that while he’s a warrior on the field; he’s a humble, polite, well-spoken person off of it.”

With Godber’s recent offers, it only solidifies the strength of the Saints football program which in turn, has produced some of the nation’s top players.
“Our football program is committed to providing our players with elite coaching and maximum exposure to university coaches and scouts,” comments Gurr of the Saints football program. “Whether it’s Eddie Meredith earning a full scholarship to Boston College, Peter Godber now having earned official offers from Baylor and Rice, Jamal Kett heading to Simon Fraser (NCAA Division 2), or our many fantastic players who move on to CIS football, we strive to do everything we can to make our guys the best students, athletes, and people that we can.”
“St. Andrew’s is rightfully regarded as one of the top schools in North America, and I’m hopeful that the football program can continue to maintain the standards of excellence set by the school as a whole.”
Godber is appreciative of all the exposure and interest he’s received lately. Not only does he credit loved ones, but the Saints coaching staff for all the success he’s been able to achieve on the field.
“I canβt thank the people around me enough for all the attention I am now receiving, especially my parents,” adds the Saints offensive lineman. “Coach Gurr and Coach (Michael) Carroll have also done wonders for me.”
“Iβm lucky to play under one of the best high school coaching staffs in the nation.”
As for when a final decision will be made, Godber says he will take his time in carefully weighing all his options before deciding where the next chapter of his storied football career will take place.
“I donβt have a set time for choosing what university I would like to attend,” explains Godber. “Iβll have a long time to decide, so Iβm not going to rush into anything.”
“Iβll probably have a better idea when I go for my official and unofficial visits.”
