On Saturday June 9th the Sarnia Sturgeon made the long road trip to take on the Sudbury Gladiators. The long road trip was topped off with a 24-14 victory.
The Sturgeon played well in the first half for their defense only allowed one first down. A standout player for the Sturgeon on defense was Blake Maxfield for he hauled in two interceptions. Although they dominated the first half they came out slow in the second half and they surrendered a big lead. On the offensive side of the ball the standout was fullback Yenel Olivero who was a bulldozer up the middle and earned many tough yards. Also on offence quarterback Josh Elsley played well making many accurate and precise passes.
βWe played well in the first half but we slowed up a little in the second half,β says head coach Steve Belrose. Belrose knows the importance of playing well for the games duration. Despite the second half miscues the Sturgeon still played hard and won the game.
βThey are a good team,β said Belrose who also had other good things to say about the Gladiators. βSudbury is a 1st class organization who treated us well when we arrived to their field.β
βAll around it was a fun game,β Belrose added. Belrose is proud of his team for they fought hard after a long trip.β
βNext we need to prepare for Twin Cities on the road,β stated Belrose.
Saturday June 16th the Sturgeon will play the undefeated Twin City Predators and they know it is going to be a tough game. The game will also be a great test to see where they are as a team. The Predators are a fast and tough team who plays well in all phases of the game. Historically the Predators have always played well at home.
The battle for first place commences on June 16th at University Stadium in Waterloo at 4:00 from University Stadium.
Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
