Canadian Football League Week #7
TORONTO –Β Jon Cornish, J.C Sherritt and Larry Taylor were named the Gibson’s Finest CFL Players of the Week for Week Seven, the Canadian Football League announced today.
The three players were chosen by a panel of judges that includes former Canadian Football League players Matt Dunigan and Duane Forde, now of TSN, and Pierre Vercheval of RDS.

RB – Calgary Stampeders
Calgary Stampeders 31 @ Hamilton Tiger-Cats 20
Calgary Stampeders running back Jon Cornish was named the Offensive and Canadian Player of the Week for Week Seven. Cornish registered a game high 170 yards and one touchdown on 20 carries and also added 47 yards on six receptions in Calgary’s 31-20 victory over the Hamilton Tiger-Cats on Thursday night.
The New Westminster, B.C native was a force all night as the running game was heavily relied on in the slick conditions at Ivor Wynne Stadium. Cornish ran for an impressive 125 yards in the second half and was instrumental in securing the Stamps’ win as they trailed the Ticats heading into the third quarter. Cornish’s dominant Week Seven performance earned him his second Canadian Player of the Week award and first Offensive Player of the Week award of the 2012 season.

LB – Edmonton Eskimos
Saskatchewan Roughriders 20 @ Edmonton Eskimos 28
Edmonton Eskimos linebacker J.C Sherritt was named the Defensive Player of the Week for Week Seven. Sherritt had a game-high seven tackles and also registered a key interception with 1:45 remaining in Edmonton’s 28-20 win over the rival Saskatchewan Roughriders. Sherritt’s performance on Friday night helped the Eskimos earn a tie for first place in the West Division. It is also the third time this season he has been named Defensive Player of the Week.

Larry Taylor
SB – Calgary Stampeders
Calgary Stampeders 31 @ Hamilton Tiger-Cats 20
Calgary Stampeders slotback Larry Taylor was named the Special Teams Player of the Week for Week Seven. Taylor registered 84 yards on four kick returns and 88 yards on eight punt returns for 172 total yards in Calgary’s 31-20 win over the Hamilton Tiger-Cats. Taylor’s explosive style of play was a difference maker in his team’s crucial win that saw the Stampeders climb back to the .500 mark in the tight West Division.
