Canadian Football League Week #5

TORONTO – Henry Burris, J.C Sherritt, Daryl Townsend and Andrew Harris were named the Gibson’s Finest CFL Players of the Week for Week Five of the 2012 Canadian Football League season.

The four players were chosen by a panel of judges that includes former Canadian Football League players Matt Dunigan and Duane Forde, now of TSN, and Pierre Vercheval of RDS.

Henry Burris

QB – Hamilton Tiger-Cats

Hamilton Tiger-Cats 35 @ Saskatchewan Roughriders 34

Hamilton Tiger-Cats quarterback Henry Burris was named the Offensive Player of the Week for Week Five. Burris completed 29 of 40 passes and threw for 356 yards and four touchdowns in the Ticats 35-34 comeback win over the Saskatchewan Roughriders. Burris became the first quarterback to throw four touchdown passes in two consecutive games since Casey Printers accomplished the feat on October 16 and 22, 2005. Burris has also thrown four touchdown passes in three of his last four games.

Burris spearheaded the Ticat comeback, throwing three of his touchdown passes in the fourth quarter. His last of the game was a five-yard toss to Onrea Jones with 3:26 remaining which helped the Ticats secure their third victory of the season and Burris’ second consecutive 2012 Offensive Player of the Week award, which made him the first player to do so since Milt Stegall was recognized for his play in weeks six and seven of the 2006 season.

J.C Sherritt

LB – Edmonton Eskimos

Edmonton Eskimos 22 @ Winnipeg Blue Bombers 23

Edmonton Eskimos linebacker J.C Sherritt was named the Defensive Player of the Week for Week Five. Sherritt registered a game high 10 tackles on Thursday night at Canad Inns Stadium in the 23-22 loss to the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. Sherritt has been enjoying a successful 2012 campaign as he leads the CFL in tackles and has already claimed his second Defensive Player of the Week award.

Daryl Townsend

S – Montreal Alouettes

Toronto Argonauts 23 @ Montreal Alouettes 20

Montreal Alouettes safety Daryl Townsend was named the Special Teams Player of the Week for Week Five. Townsend received his first Special Teams Player of the Week award for the 2012 season as he registered a game high four special teams tackles in the 23-20 loss to the Toronto Argonauts at Molson Stadium.

Andrew Harris

RB – BC Lions

BC Lions 34 @ Calgary Stampeders 8

BC Lions running back Andrew Harris was named the top Canadian Player of the Week for Week Five. Harris collected a game high 55 yards on nine carries, 37 yards and two touchdowns on five receptions in the Lions 34-8 win over the Calgary Stampeders. The Winnipeg, Manitoba native was dominant all evening in a performance that earned him his second top Canadian Player of the Week award in this young season.
