TORONTO – Kory Sheets, Kyries Hebert, Rene Paredes and Jon Cornish were named the Gibson’s Finest CFL Players of the Month for July, the Canadian Football League announced today.
The four players were chosen by a panel of judges that includes former Canadian Football League players Matt Dunigan and Duane Forde of TSN, and Pierre Vercheval of RDS.
Gibson’s Finest CFL Offensive Player of the Month
Kory Sheets
RB – Saskatchewan Roughriders
Saskatchewan Roughriders running back Kory Sheets was named the Offensive Player of the Month for July. Through the first month of the season, Sheets has rushed for 712 yards on 118 carries (6.0 yards per carry) and has scored four touchdowns. Sheets has rushed for 130 or more yards in each of Saskatchewan’s first five games and is one of the reasons why the Roughriders are undefeated (5-0). His best performance came in Week 3 where he ran for 178 yards on 26 carries with two touchdowns in a victory at Toronto, and was named Offensive Player of the Week.
Sheets also has eight receptions for 98 yards this season and has a 211-yard lead on the CFL rushing list. His torrid start has him on pace to surpass Mike Pringle’s all-time CFL rushing record of 2,065 rushing yards.
Gibson’s Finest CFL Defensive Player of the Month
Kyries Hebert
LB – Montreal Alouettes
Montreal Alouettes linebacker Kyries Hebert was named the Defensive Player of the Month for July. Hebert has been a bright spot for the Alouettes defence so far during the young 2013 season. Hebert leads the league with seven sacks and is second on the Alouettes with 31 tackles. Hebert was recognized as Defensive Player of the Week for his Week 5 performance where he recorded 10 tackles and two sacks in a victory over Edmonton.
Gibson’s Finest CFL Special Teams Player of the Month
Rene Paredes
K – Calgary Stampeders
Calgary Stampeders kicker Rene Paredes was named the Special Teams Player of the Month for July. Paredes has been perfect to begin the season by going 16-for-16 on field-goals including two games where he was perfect 5-for-5. Paredes broke a CFL record by hitting 31 consecutive field-goals that began last season, which was previously held by Paul McCallum. Through the first month of the season, Paredes leads the league with 62 kicking points.

Jon Cornish
RB – Calgary Stampeders
Calgary Stampeders running back Jon Cornish was named the Canadian Player of the Month for July. The New Westminster, BC native has contributed 501 yards and three touchdowns on 77 carries and 137 yards and a touchdown on 14 receptions on the season to help the Stampeders into second place in the West Division. Cornish sits behind only behind Kory Sheets in rushing and was named Canadian Player of the Week for Week 1 of the 2013 season.
