Durham (LOSSA) Holy Trinity Titans vs Eastdale Eagles recap

One down, five to go for the Holy Trinity Titans who started their season 1-0 by defeating the Eastdale Eagles 35-8. The Titans were the favourites and played like it while Eastdale played like a tier two team against a tier one team. A big offensive line was not enough to push a determined Titans Defensive line, who stuffed the Eagles rushing attack and forced them to the air early; the air attack went much the same as the ground attack did and failed to produce any consistent offence.

The Titans did exactly what they needed to do and took the game to eagles early forcing a two and out. They benefited from a bad long snap which gave the Titans a first and goal from the one. A quarterback sneak by Titans signal caller Chris Waldinsperger got the Titans on the board early. On the next drive Titans linebacker Tyler Paul picked off the  Eagles quarterback in Eastdale territory. The pick was quickly followed up with a screen pass from Chris Waldinsperger to Brandon Joachim for a touchdown. On the next drive the Holy Trinity defence once again took the ball back as Tyler Paul scooped up a fumble and returned it for a touchdown.

In the second quarter the Titans let off the gas a little bit, and began running the ball very well, eliminating virtually any need to throw the ball. Titans running back Alex Olay was able to find the end zone for the only score of the second quarter. The Titans would go into half time leading 28-0.

Holy Trinity would once again score early in the third quarter on a long outside run by Derek Cyr.  Also finding the end zone in the third quarter was the Eastdale offence on a long pass to the end zone. The rest of the third was mainly uneventful as most of the starters were on the bench while the second and third strings left were to mop up the remainder of the game.

In the fourth the only points would be a rouge scored by Eastdale, who had begun to find somewhat of a rhythm and began to move the ball consistently. The Eagles would push the ball down to the Titans two yard line with just over a minute left in the game, but after a tackle for loss and a sack later the Eagles were faced with third and goal from beyond the five yard line. A strong run by Aaron Young would come up just short which would allow the Titans to kneel the ball and kill the clock.

The Titans won big in week one but Holy Trinity must forget the victory and focus on the next week’s game with probable LOSSA heavy weight Paul Dwyer, this will be a great early season test for the Titans. The Eagles will face the Pickering Trojans.
