Montreal Coaches Clinic: Sonny Wolfe to discuss the “Role of a Coach”

Montreal, Quebec – Hall of Fame coach Sonny Wolfe to discuss the “Role of a Coach”

Wolfe retired from CIS coaching in 2011 after a career that began in 1968 and spans six decades. However, Wolfe has not retired from coaching as he is now the head coach at Montreal College.  He will draw from his experience as a position coach, Offensive and Defensive Coordinator as well as Head Coach when he presents on the “Role of a Coach”.  Wolfe presented the same topic in Burlington in 2012, and was graded by his peers as one of the top speakers at that clinic.

Wolfe retired a McGill Redmen in 2011 after returning in 2007 as Head Coach, adding the Offensive Coordinator responsibilities a year later. Wolfe first came to McGill as a student and DB, graduating in 1976 and stayed on for the next six seasons as an assistant coach.  He has since assumed coaching duties at Montreal College (high school).  In 2013 he was inducted into the Acadia Sports Hall of Fame and the same year was honoured by the CIS with the Jean-Marie De Koninck Coaching Excellence Award, presented since 2007 to an individual who has made an outstanding contribution to university sport as demonstrated by long-term commitment and leadership as a coach at the local, provincial, national and/or international levels.

In 1984, Wolfe moved on to Acadia University (after McGill), where he served as Head Coach for 19 years, posting a regular season record of 83-63 and an overall 86-75 mark. A two-time AUS Coach of the Year (1986 and 1995), Wolfe guided the Axemen to 16 post-season appearances, 12 Atlantic Conference finals, winning three times (1986, 1995, and 1998).
In 2003, Wolfe moved on to St. Francis Xavier University, where he served as Offensive Coordinator and spent the next three seasons at Université de Montreal as Defensive Coordinator prior to returning to McGill.

Wolfe started his coaching career in 1968 as a Defensive Line Coach with the NDG Maple Leafs, followed by three at Sir George Williams University and four as a Defensive Coordinator at Vanier College prior to returning to McGill for the first time.

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
