Waterford kicker recently commits to OUA team.
Caleb Girard was looking for two specific things when he was deciding where he would play at the CIS level.
Ultimately, the 5β9, 155 pound kicker from Waterford, Ontario found one OUA school that met his needs.Β Recently, Girard committed to the Waterloo Warriors for the 2014 OUA season.
βAs all the Waterloo football coaches would say, academics and family comes before football,β expressed Girard.Β βI took this to heart and really analyzed my choices in this manner.β
βIn the end, Waterloo was the perfect fit for my academic aspirations and course selection, as well as a comfortable location and close distance from my home, family and friends. Β Β Along with that, I was drawn in by the tight knit, welcoming football family and felt a part of the team right from the beginning.β
However, there were additional reasons why he chose the Waterloo, Ontario campus.
βAnother drawing factor is that the team has a specific academic advisor who deserves a lot of credit for what all he does and I feel having him will help me to balance my life and succeed in my university career,β added Girard.Β βA current team member there also played a big role in my decision as he would always check up on me and help me in any way, answering questions and providing information at any time, even giving tours of the campus, residences and town whenever I decided to visit.β
βEveryone I met there spoke highly of the University, team and coaches and it seemed like a great fit for me.β
Girard comes to the Warriors after completing his high school career with the Waterford Wolves of the Norfolk Secondary Schools Athletic Association (NSSAA).Β This past season, the kickerβs average punt was 43 yards and average kickoff distance was 65 yards.Β Moreover, Girard was successful on 90 percent of his field goal attempts.Β His longest successful field goal attempt was 53 yards.
Not only did he play for the Wolves but he suited up for the Hamilton Hurricanes of the Ontario Football Conference (OFC).
