He might be new to the St. Francis Browns this fall, but receiver Alex Groshak is no gridiron rookie.

Calgary’s Alex Groshak has experience at a wide variety of positions. When he started out as an atom with the Calgary Cowboys in 2008, his first position was cornerback. During the course of the two years each he spent at atom, peewee and bantam,

As the seasons progressed, Alex raked in numerous accolades. He was the Cowboys’ Rookie of the Year in 2008, and was named their Most Improved Player in 2009. The team took home the Division 1 City and Provincial championships in Alex’s first season of bantam, and he was also the Cowboys’ MVP and Captain.

2013 was a particularly good year for Alex’s football career. Alongside winning yet another provincial championship with the Cowboys, he was their MVP and Team Captain for a second time. On top of that, Alex was a CBFA All-Star.

Alex has now completed his first season with the Cowboys of the Calgary Area Midget Football Association (CAMFA).

This fall, Alex will be starting his high school career with the St. Francis Browns of the Calgary Senior High School Athletic Association (CSHSAA). He says he is looking forward to “being surrounded by talented players and good coaching.”

Off the football field, Alex keeps active in other sports. He has been playing hockey for the last 10 years, and also enjoys skiing and longboarding. He also likes to travel, and has been all over North America.

He hasn’t yet started high school, but Alex is also looking ahead to possible university football teams. He has dual citizenship in the United States as well as Canada, and could easily play in either the CIS or the NCAA. Alex doesn’t have any particular schools in mind, but is open to any opportunities that might come up, and is interested in business and marketing as possible fields of study.
