The British Columbia Football Conference is proud to announce their “BC Lions Players of the Week” for the 2012 Semi-Finals.
The Vancouver Island Raiders didn’t start their semi-final as quickly as they would have liked. However their second half adjustments turned lethal as the “BC Lions Offensive Player of the Week” quarterback Jordan Yantz picked apart the Okanagan Sun defence. He would finish 14 of 22 for 313 yards and threw two touchdowns. In the first half he was held to just 83 yards, however in the second half he exploded for 230 yards and threw both his touchdowns. The Raiders will face the Langley Rams in the BCFC Cullen Cup Championship.
Defensively the Vancouver Island Raiders pitched a second half shutout and help preserve their 34-8 semi-final win over the Okanagan Sun. Leading the Raiders defence was the “BC Lions Defensive Player of the Week;” linebacker Dylan Chapdelaine. He would make eight solo tackles, two assists and two special teams tackles. The Raiders will once again lean on him in the Cullen Cup championship.
The “BC Lions Special Teams Player of the Week” is Langley Rams returner Nick Downey. The BCFC’s “Special Teams Player of the Year” returned the longest kick of the season, sprinting 120 yards for a touchdown on a missed field goal. It’s the second longest in Canadian Junior Football League history. (129 yards-De Shone Davis-Hamilton 2009) Downey would also return two punts for 35 yards. In all he would return three missed field goals and two punts for a total of 216 yards. Downey will be a key piece for the Rams in this weekend’s Cullen Cup.
Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
