Hurricane force invades York

Two Ontario recruits join OUA team, five AFL teammates become part of 2015 class.

Two more college recruits are heading to Ontario to be reunited with former teammates.

Alrick Connell and Nicholas Parish have signed with York Lions.Β  Both players will join the team for the 2015 OUA season.

This past season, Ross and Parish guided the Holland College Hurricanes of the Atlantic Football League (AFL) to two consecutive Moosehead Cups (League Championship).

With their commitment, the Lions now have five recruits from the Hurricanes program as wide receiver Lauris Cox as well as running backs Quinton Mitchell and Layton Aitken have all committed recently.

ALRICK CONNELL:

The 6’1, 270 pound defensive lineman from Mississauga, Ontario has suited up for St. Aloysius Gonzaga Bulldogs of the Region of Peel Secondary School Athletic Association (ROPSSAA) as well as both the Halton Cowboys and Mississauga Warriors of the Ontario Varsity Football League (OVFL).

“I choose York not just because it is close to home but because of the direction that the program is heading in and the promising future that lies ahead,” expressed Connell of his commitment.Β  β€œYork has been look down on as the underdog team in the OUA for quite a while now and I believe with the right group of guys that as the same mind set and goals we can turn this program around.”

β€œFrom the coaching staff to the players we believe a change is coming to York soon.”

Nicholas Parish

NICHOLAS PARISH:

The 6’1, 296 pound defensive lineman from Ottawa, Ontario has played for several teams during his gridiron career.Β  Those include St. Patrick Fighting Irish of the National Capital Secondary School Athletic Association (NCSSAA), Cumberland Panthers of the Ontario Varsity Football League (OVFL) and South Ottawa Stampeders.

During his time with the Fighting Irish, Parish guided the team to an undefeated season en route to NCSSAA Tier 2 Championship.

β€œI decided to pick York University as my new home for numerous reasons,” commented Parish.Β  β€œI feel the coaching staff understands and cares about their players in academics and on the field.”

β€œFrom my visit at the campus, I had a vision of making change and turning things around in the program, and by saying that, I want to be a part of the rebuilding state. Big Things Happening This year.”
