For years the OUA – among other conferences – has struggled with the problem of the βpβ word. Not public donations, not PEDs (with some exceptions), but parity.
Parity is defined as, βthe state or condition of being equal, especially regarding statusβ. Basically for all to have a fair chance at earning their shot at success.
Professional sports leagues pride themselves on proving parity exists. Each year the NFL and one of its broadcasting partners publishes the βcircle of parityβ after each team has inevitably found a way to beat another. This circle of parity is used as a visual certificate of the NFLβs success in creating intriguing match-ups.
In recent years the Ontario University Athletics conference has been full of routs, lopsided finishes and unfortunate sleep inducing match-ups. Sadly 66 per cent of the 11-team loop’s regular season games in 2013 were decided by more than three touchdowns.
