RSEQ PREVIEW: Carabins facing new challenge with Vert et Or

Montreal – The season started similarly for both the Montreal Carabins and Sherbrooke Vert et Or.

However after this first duel between the two teams, it will send each team in different directions. The stakes are often high in games between these two rivals. It will be the case once again this Saturday at 14h in CEPSUM.

Both the Carabins and the Vert et Or have each lost a game against the Laval Rouge et Or in the past two weeks. They also won their other games of the season convincingly. Moreover, the two quarterbacks have shown they were in full possession.

“We must find a way to limit Jérémi Roch on offence,” said Carabins Head Coach Danny Maciocia. “They know how to have a good start.

“In fact, the Vert et Or have probably the best team in recent years. They have improved and will do well in all three facets of the game for a chance to win. ”

In RSEQ, both Roch and Gabriel Cousineau, who are two fifth-year players, compete head-to-head in the main quarterback statistic categories. Roch gained 675 yards against 636 for Cousineau. . Cousineau ranked fourth in Canada for completion percentage with 73%.

“No matter who is on the other side, I always want to be at my best,” said Cousineau. “It always nice to play against Jeremi Roch.”

“We have now faced each other for several seasons.”

“Our offensive is going well,” noted Maciocia.  “But we always want to improve.”

“It is always important to find a balance between the ground and air attack. ”

Both teams have also displayed the best defensive units in Quebec. The Carabins have only given up 14 points to their opponents in two games. The Vert et Or were not much more generous as they only surrendered 27 points.

“We expect the Vert et Or to come with confidence,” Cousineau said. “We are also confident after our victory last week.”

“I think the winner of this game will be in a very good position for the rest of the season. This is a pivotal game.”

The last meeting between the two teams took place in the RSEQ semi-finals in November at CEPSUM. The Carabins defeated the Vert et Or in that game, 40-13. There will also be a second game later this season in Sherbrooke on October 3rd.
