RSEQ: CEGEP division 1 (AAA) players of year & all-stars


The RSEQ honored the best student-athletes in Division 1 college football at the annual banquet on Saturday at the John Molson Room. The Elks of Collège François-Xavier-Garneau got their hands on three of the seven individual awards.

Luis-Andres Guimond-Mota (Quebec, Que.) Won the title of “player of the season” in Division 1 college football. Running back College Francois-Xavier-Garneau amassed 1108 yards in 147 carries, leading the league in the 2011 season. Guimond-Mota scored six touchdowns.

His teammate, Antoine Leduc (Quebec, Que.) wins the honor as offensive player of the year. The Elks quarterback completed 117 of his 195 passing attempts for an efficiency percentage of 60%. Leduc amassed 1,388 yards in addition to throwing ten touchdowns. In addition, the student-athlete from Quebec was very effective on the ground. He ran 124 times for 582 yards and eleven TDs.

Jean-FranΓ§ois Cyr (Tring-Junction, Que.) of Champlain College Lennoxville, was honored for his work on defense, winning the “defensive player of the year” by virtue of his 28 solo tackles and 21 asssisted tackles. Jean-FranΓ§ois also managed five sacks and seven tackles for loss during the 2011 season.


Louis-Philippe Simoneau (Saint-Hyacinthe, Que.) is the “special teams player of the year”. The Elks kicker finished top of Division 1 college football for kicking accuracy. Louis-Philippe amassed 2,791 yards on kickoff 55 yards in 1355 and 38 punts.

The rookie of the year is Regis Cibasu (Montreal, Que.) of Collège Édouard-Montpetit. Despite the fact that it was in its first year, he caught in 58 catches for 824 yards.

Yoan Bourgeault-Gagnon (Notre-Dame-des-Prairies, Que.) Lynx is the “student-athlete par excellence”. Linebacker managed 62 tackles with 56 solos and support for an impressive total of 90 points in ten games. Yoan also had two sacks and as many interceptions, and three tackles for loss.

Finally, Charles Vaillancourt (Coaticook, Que.) Champlain College Lennoxville was selected “offensive lineman of the year.”
