UBC kicker suspended for Stanozolol Violation

(Ottawa, Ontario – October 30, 2012) – The Canadian Centre for Ethics in Sport (CCES) announced today thatΒ Billy PavlopoulosΒ has received a two-year sanction for an anti-doping rule violation. The athlete’s urine sample, collected during out-of-competition doping control on January 9, 2012, revealed the presence of stanozolol, a prohibited anabolic steroid.

Mr. Pavlopoulos is a Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS) football athlete from the University of British Columbia. He resides in Vancouver, British Columbia.

In response to the CCES’ notification of the adverse analytical finding, Mr. Pavlopoulos exercised his right to a hearing. Arbitrator Sanderson imposed a sanction of two years ineligibility from sport, terminating January 9, 2014. The athlete is ineligible to participate in any capacity with any sport signatory to the Canadian Anti-Doping Program (CADP), including training with teammates.
