The top Ontario school (Herman Green Griffins) on the CFC ‘Top 25’ lived up their billing and ran away from the Assumption College Lions (Brantford) in the Western Bowl.

The Griffins controlled the tempo of the game, pounding the ball on the ground for almost 300 yards, which led to a 48 to 23 victory. Beau Lumley led that attack with 156 yards on 13 carries and 5 touchdowns.

CFC ‘top skill player’ Arjen Colquhoun, playing both running back and defensive back, played a strong game ending with 83 yards rushing and 3 pass knock downs. A costly fumble by Colquhoun near the end of the first half resulted in the Lions first touchdown and made the score closer then what the play indicated. The half time score was 21 to 10.

The Lions did not quit, and made some terrific pass plays in the second half. QB Ben Hall found Justin Kotiuk (9 catches, 95 yards, 1 TD) and Anthony Powless (4 catches, 83 yards, 1 touchdown) multiple times. But it was a case of too little, too late for the Lions.

With 30 players scheduled to return for the Lions, Coach Ireland and the staff will be well situated for another run at the Western Bowl.
