Last week marked the beginning of the high school football season in Saskatchewan.
Here is a glimpse of some of the games that took place in Regina, Saskatoon and Moose Jaw.

REGINA INTERCOLLEGIATE FOOTBALL LEAGUE (RIFL):
SCHWANN CONFERENCE (4A):
CFC#9 LEBOLDUS GOLDEN SUNS 77, THOM TROJANS 0:
Last Wednesday, CFC#9 LeBoldus Golden Suns crushed Thom Trojans 77-0.
Terrell Mildenberger tallied two majors and racked up 71 yards on two receptions. Additionally, Nick Cross dashed into the end zone for two touchdowns and rushed for 65 yards on four carries. Daniel Easton scored twice including one on a 35 yard punt return.
Semba Mbasela added a score and rushed for 110 yards on eight carries for the Golden Suns. Joel Hansen, #CFC100 Ryan Lucyk, Michael Scraper each scored a touchdown in the victory.
Pivot Josh Donnelly completed three passes in five attempts for 96 yards and two passing touchdowns. Moreover, Brayden Kuski completed two passes in three attempts for 71 yards and two passing majors for the Golden Suns. Dawson Ducharmie-Daschuk converted an interception for a touchdown.
Mildenberger added two PAT’s while Adam Probe was successful on two point extra attempts.
On defence, Cross led the way as he recorded a sack and 4.5 tackles. Furthermore, #CFC100 Nick Dheilly had a sack and 3.5 tackles. Krestin Thera registered three tackles and a sack. Luke Hansen and Ryder Varga each caught an interception in the win. Noah Dheilly had a pass deflection.
“The key to victory for LeBoldus was a total team effort and game execution at a very high level,” commented Golden Suns Head Coach John Foord after the game. “Our leaders and veterans were very strong and eight different players scored touchdowns in the game. “
“All players saw meaningful playtime and all team members played an important role in the victory.”
SASKATOON SECONDARY SCHOOL ATHLETIC DIRECTORATE (SSSAD):
EVAN HARDY SOULS 28, NORTH BATTLEFORD VIKINGS 14:
On Thursday night, the Evan Hardy Souls began their season with a 28-14 victory over North Battleford Vikings.
Senior middle linebacker and provincial under-18 standout Kyle Newton led the defence, which turned in a solid performance, including six turnovers.
Overall, the Souls were satisfied with their play in the season opener.
“We started strong on both sides and our quarterback Evan Bayliss was patient and steady in the pocket,” assessed Souls Defensive Coordinator Wyatt Carleton. “We ran the ball well with our Team Saskatchewan, grade 10 running back Carter McLean; he is going to be special.”
After the win, their focus has turned to the next step which is a special occasion.
“We enter the most difficult stretch of our schedule before we enter our 3A stretch,” expressed Carleton. “We play in our schools 50th anniversary game next Friday night against a very strong 4A Aden Bowman team.”
“It should be a great experience and a great game – on to week two!”
MOOSE JAW HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL LEAGUE (MJHSFL):
PEACOCK TORNADOES 46, SWIFT CURRENT COLTS 0:
This past week, Park Andrews made a great first impression as starting quarterback as the defending champions Peacock Tornadoes opened their 2015 campaign by thumping Swift Current Colts 49-0.
Andrews racked up 119 passing yards and three touchdowns (one passing and two rushing). Kyle Arndt tallied two majors and rushed for 104 yards in the win. Dawson Kurtz connected with Andrews for a touchdown reception while Griffin Barrett converted a fumble recovery into a 65 yard touchdown score for the Tornadoes.
CENTRAL CYCLONES 38, VANIER VIKINGS 6:
Zach Hagerman tallied a major and rushed for 177 yards on 18 carries as the Central Cyclones blew away the Vanier Vikings 38-6.
Additionally, he had 45 yards on two receptions in the win.
However, the Vikings opened the scoring in the contest as Kelton Kouri scored in the first quarter.
After the Vikings got on the scoreboard, the Cyclones roared back with 38 consecutive points in the game.
Ryan Reidy, Aidan Baillie and Aiden Coleman each scored a touchdown. Levi Kelly added a 26 yard field goal for the Cyclones. On defence, Abu Dukuly caught an interception to lead the way.
In addition to the touchdown, Kouri amassed 160 rushing yards – 124 of those yards accumulated in the first half on 21 carries to guide the Vikings in a losing cause.
