The Football Canada Coaches (FCCA) Convention concluded its opening day of the 2012 Convention being held in Burlington, Ontario at Corpus Christi Secondary School. The event attracted over 300 delegates including 200 coaches who traveled from as far as Alberta, Quebec City and New Brunswick to attend the event.
Highlights from the opening day included presentations from Larry Haylor, Tom Annett, and George Cortez. In addition, Warren Steeves (Orleans Bengals, National Capital Amateur Football Association) received the Investors Group Volunteer Sport Administrator Award while the Taylor Hooton Foundation raised awareness about the dangers of performance enhancing drugs.
In the summer of 2011, Larry Haylor, a former CIS head coach led the Canadian Senior Menβs National Team to a silver medal finish at the IFAF Senior World Championship. He presented on his experiences and the challenges of sending a team to the World Championship. The presentation also included an excerpt from a documentary created about the 2011 IFAF tournament.
The top rated presenter from last yearβs convention, Tom Annett returned in 2012 to present on using Quads Formations. Annett was engaging once again, providing support for an unconventional philosophy and may have started a new trend in football.
Hamilton Tiger-Cats Head Coach, George Cortezβs presentation included all the fundamentals and mechanics required to develop Canadian Quarterbacks. His presentation was supplemented from his time working with Kyle Boller and Aaron Rogers who Cortez coached at the University of California.
Many speakers and presentations were spoken about at the post-day social at QB Sports Grille. Leo Ezerins and the CFL alumni association hosted the social event.
Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
