2013 Gibson’s Finest CFL Player of the Week: Week 8

TORONTO – Ricky Ray, Tyron Brackenridge, Tim Brown and Marc-Olivier Brouillette were named the Gibson’s Finest Players of the Week for Week 8 of the 2013 Canadian Football League season.

The four players were chosen by a panel of judges including: former Canadian Football League players Matt Dunigan and Duane Forde of TSN, and Pierre Vercheval of RDS.

Ricky Ray

QB – Toronto Argonauts

Edmonton Eskimos 33 @ Toronto Argonauts 36

Toronto Argonauts quarterback Ricky Ray was named the Offensive Player of the Week for Week 8. Ray was near perfect by completing 30-of-35 passes for 413 yards and three touchdowns in the Argonauts victory over the Edmonton Eskimos, 36-33.

Ray, the all-time completion percentage leader at Sacramento State, threw three touchdowns to three different receivers in the game and also had a rush for five yards. Ray started the game completing his first 17 passes, flirting with the record of 22 consecutive completions to start a game, which is held by current Argos receivers coach Jason Maas.

Currently, Ray is second in passing yards with 1,768 yards, second in touchdown passes (14) and is first amongst starting quarterbacks with 78.1 completion percentage and a 133.0 quarterback rating.

This is Ray’s second CFL Offensive Player of the Week this season, his first coming in week 1.

Tyron Brackenridge

LB – Saskatchewan Roughriders

Montreal Alouettes 21 @ Saskatchewan Roughriders 24

Saskatchewan Roughriders linebacker Tyron Brackenridge was named the Defensive Player of the Week for Week 8. Brackenridge was a force all game for the Roughriders as he collected an interception, two forced fumbles, two tackles and a special teams tackle in Saskatchewan’s win over the Montreal Alouettes, 24-21.

Brackenridge, a former player at Washington State, intercepted a Josh Neiswander pass in the third quarter, as well as forced a fumble in both quarters in the second half.

Brackenridge has 22 tackles, three special teams tackles, two forced fumbles and one interception this season with Saskatchewan.

Tim Brown

KR – BC Lions

Calgary Stampeders 22 @ BC Lions 26

BC Lions kick returner Tim Brown was named the Special Teams Player of the Week for Week 8. Brown returned a first quarter kickoff, 97 yards for a touchdown to give BC Lions an early 13-7 lead over the Calgary Stampeders.

The former Temple University product returned four kickoffs for 140 yards and also returned nine punts for 72 yards. Brown finished with 212 all purpose yards in the game.

Brown currently sits fifth in the CFL with 669 combined return yards.

Marc-Olivier Brouillette

LB – Montreal Alouettes

Montreal Alouettes 21 @ Saskatchewan Roughriders 24

Montreal Alouettes linebacker Marc-Olivier Brouillette was named the Canadian Player of the Week for Week 8. Brouillette finished the game with three tackles, two sacks and forced two fumbles in the Alouettes loss to the Roughriders.

Brouillette, a native of Montreal, QC and former University of Montreal player is tied for third on the team with two sacks this season.
