2013 Gibson’s Finest CFL Players of the Month (August): Durant, Cox, Milo & Brouillette

TORONTO – Darian Durant, Chip Cox, Chris Milo and Marc-Olivier Brouillette were named the Gibson’s Finest CFL Players of the Month for August, the Canadian Football League announced today.

The monthly award includes all games played from week 6 to week 10.

The four players were chosen by a panel of judges that includes former Canadian Football League players Matt Dunigan and Duane Forde of TSN, and Pierre Vercheval of RDS.

QB – Saskatchewan Roughriders

Saskatchewan Roughriders quarterback Darian Durant was named the Offensive Player of the Month for August. During the second month of the season, Durant passed for 1,177 yards, completed 86-of-129 (66.7%) passes and had nine touchdowns passes and only one interception. Durant saved his best performance during the Labour Day Weekend against the Roughriders rivals, the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. In the game, He threw for 315 yards on 24-of-35 passing and threw four touchdowns. In the games between Week 6 and a Week 10 the Roughriders went 3-1 and are first in the CFL and West Division.

Durant also had nine rushes for 94 yards this season and is on pace to have career-highs in touchdown passes, QB Rating and career-low in interceptions.

Durant leads the CFL this season in touchdown passes (21) and is fourth in passing yards with 2,198.

Gibson’s Finest CFL Defensive Player of the Month
Chip Cox
LB – Montreal Alouettes

Montreal Alouettes linebacker Chip Cox was named the Defensive Player of the Month for August. Cox has been one of the most consistent players on the Alouettes so far this season. During the month of August, Cox recorded 32 tackles, three special teams tackles and a quarterback sack, which helped Montreal to a 2-2 record during that span, including their first winning streak of the season. Cox’s best performance in August came in Week 8 against the first place Roughriders where he recorded 11 tackles and two special teams tackles in the last second loss to Saskatchewan.

So far this season, Cox leads the CFL in tackles with 71 and is on pace to set career-highs in tackles, sacks, and special team tackles.

Chris Milo
K – Saskatchewan Roughriders

 

Saskatchewan Roughriders kicker Chris Milo was named the Special Teams Player of the Month for August. Milo continued to be perfect in the kicking game by going 11-for-11 in August and is 23-for-23 on field-goals this season. Milo’s best performance came against Montreal in Week 8 where he went a perfect 5-for-5 including the game- winning field goal with no time on the clock to keep Saskatchewan first in the CFL.

Milo is currently first in the league in kicking percentage (100%) and is second in kicking points with 100.

Marc-Olivier Brouillette
LB – Montreal Alouettes

Montreal Alouettes linebacker Marc-Olivier Brouillette was named the Canadian Player of the Month for August. The Montreal, QC native contributed nine tackles and four sacks in the month of August. His best performance came recently against the Toronto Argonauts where he notched six tackles and two sacks in the Alouettes win, 20-9.

In August Brouillette was awarded with his play by being named Canadian Player of the Week in Weeks 8 and 10.
