2013 National Women’s Football Team Head Coach, Offensive and Defensive Coordinators announced

The 2013 National Women’s Football Team Head Coach, Offense and Defense Coordinators have been announced. The International Federation of American Football has set 2013 for the next Women’s World Football Championship (location yet to be determined).

François Bougie (far left) from Montreal, QC has been named the Head Coach. A veteran to the international football scene, he was the Head Coach of the national women’s flag football team in 2008 and 2010 as well as the Offensive Line Coach with the 2010 national tackle women’s team. He was the first Head Coach of the Montreal Blitz team a women’s tackle team that is part of the Independent Women’s Football League (IWFL). François has many years experience as a coach in flag, touch and tackle within high school, CEGEP and adult leagues. He brings a wealth of experience particularly to the women’s game.

Jeff Yausie from Saskatoon, SK has been named the Defensive Coordinator. Jeff most recently led the Saskatoon Valkyries of the Western Women’s Canadian Football League to their first National Championship in their inaugural season. He has been a coach with the legendary Saskatoon Hilltops of the Canadian Junior Football League since 2002. Jeff is a certified NCCP Level 3 football coach with a long playing career that included the Saskatoon Hilltops, the Saskatchewan Huskies of the CIS, the Calgary Stampeders and the former Ottawa Roughriders of the CFL.

Jim Mather from Saint John, NB has been named the Offensive Coordinator. Jim was part of the 2010 silver medal winning Canadian Women’s National Team, as the receivers coach. Jim has been involved in football for 17 years as a coach and player. He has been involved with the Saint John women’s tackle football team since 2008. He was Offensive Coordinator in 2008 and 2009 and Head Coach/ Offensive Coordinator in 2010 and 2011. This team has won three Maritime Championships during these four years.

The 2010 World Championship held in Stockholm, Sweden saw Canada bring home a silver medal with a team that was represented by players from across the country. The 2010 event not only was a success internationally for female football but also nationally with female teams and programs starting up from one end of the country to the next. The goal is to continue building not only a stronger more competitive team for 2013 but to continue growing the female program nationally so that we will be able to see representation from all provinces on the national team as well as host a senior national championship and eventually U18 national championship.

Players interested in participating in the 2013 team will need to have turned 18 no later than December 31st, 2012 and be a member of their Provincial Sport Organization. More details regarding identification camps and the World Championship will be released over the next couple months.
