2015 AUS Schedule announced

Atlantic University Sport released the 2015 football schedule today for the upcoming fall season.

Each of the conference’s four teams will once again play eight regular season games, with the regular season kicking off with a Friday evening and a Saturdayafternoon game in Week 1.

The two-time reigning AUS champion Mount Allison Mounties will visit the Saint Mary’s Huskies in their home opener, Friday, Sept. 11 at 7 p.m. in Halifax, N.S.

Then, in a rematch of the 2014 Subway AUS football semi-final playoff game, the Acadia Axemen will look to kick this season off with a win in their own home opener, Saturday, Sept. 12 at 2 p.m. in Wolfville, N.S., versus the StFX X-Men.

Interlock play will once again take place in Week 4 this season. All four AUS teams will see action versus the RSEQ conference on Saturday, Sept. 26. The Mounties will host the Sherbrooke Vert et Or in Sackville, N.B., while the Huskies host the Bishop’s Gaiters in Halifax, both at 2 p.m. Meanwhile, the X-Men will travel to Quebec City to face the Laval Rouge et Or and the Axemen will travel to Montreal where they will be hosted by the McGill Redmen.

Mount Allison will hold its homecoming Saturday, Sept. 19 when they will host the Acadia Axemen for a 2 p.m. game. StFX will host the Saint Mary’s Huskies for their own homecoming Saturday, Oct. 3. The game will kick off at 2 p.m.

Both Saint Mary’s and Acadia will hold their respective homecomings Saturday, Oct. 17. The Huskies will play host to StFX, while the Axemen take on the Mounties. Both games are set for 2 p.m.

Regular season play will wrap up with two games on Saturday, Oct. 31 at 2 p.m. Mount Allison will host StFX while Acadia hosts Saint Mary’s.

AUS playoffs are set to begin the following weekend when the second-seeded team hosts the third-seeded team Saturday, Nov. 7 at 2 p.m. in the playoff semi-final.

The winner will advance to the 2015 Subway AUS Loney Bowl which will be played Saturday, Nov. 14 at 2 p.m. and hosted by the top-seeded team.

“We’re very much looking forward to the upcoming football season,” said AUS executive director and football chair Phil Currie. “The Mounties put on quite a show last season, going undefeated in AUS play. We look forward to seeing what they’ll bring to the table in September. StFX and Acadia kept us on the edge of our seats, fighting for a place in the Subway AUS Loney Bowl right down to the final plays of the semi-final. And while Saint Mary’s faced the challenges of being a very young team, they’re now a year older, a year stronger and year more experienced. We look forward to witnessing their growth as a team and, as always, to another very exciting AUS football season.”

The AUS champion will then move on to compete in and host the 2015 CIS Uteck Bowl, Saturday, Nov. 21. The time of that game has yet to be determined.

The Mitchell Bowl and Uteck Bowl winners will advance to play each other in the 51st Vanier Cup on Saturday, Nov. 28. The national final will be hosted by Université Laval in Quebec City. The time of the game has yet to be set.
