CFC40 Class of 2024 OL Giovanni Manu out of Pitt Meadows SS in British Columbia was taken 126th overall in the fourth round by the Detroit Lions, who traded a future draft pick to move up and select the 6’8, 350lb behemoth.

Manu only started playing football in high school after moving to Canada from Tonga, a small country south of Samoa. We got our first glimpse of the monster when he participated in the FPC West Showcase. Despite his rawness and lack of experience, Manu’s rare size and athleticism garnered significant interest across U Sports and NCAA programs, but he opted to remain close to home by committing to UBC, where he started every single game between 2019 and 2023. The massive pass protector carries the distinction of being the first U Sports player to be selected in the NFL draft since 2009, and the first Thunderbird to be drafted in the school’s history.

Manu was ranked eighth overall in the CFC40 Class of 2024, and a strong performance at the first-ever UBC Pro Day on Friday, March 29 elevated him even further on draft boards. Detroit already has one of the best offensive lines in the NFL, and Manu should serve as an excellent depth piece in 2024.

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
