Gibson’s Finest CFL Players of the Week #9: Green, Hughes, Williams and Cornish

TORONTO – S.J Green, Charleston Hughes, Chris Williams and Jon Cornish were named the Gibson’s Finest CFL Players of the Week for Week Nine, the Canadian Football League announced today.The four players were chosen by a panel of judges that includes former Canadian Football League players Matt Dunigan and Duane Forde, now of TSN, and Pierre Vercheval of RDS.

Gibson’s Finest CFL Offensive Player of the Week

SB – Montreal Alouettes

Hamilton Tiger-Cats 29 @ Montreal Alouettes 31

Montreal Alouettes slotback S.J Green was named the Offensive Player of the Week for Week Nine. Green registered a game-high 168 yards and one touchdown on 10 receptions in the Alouettes’ 31-29 win over the Hamilton Tiger-Cats. Green claimed his first 2012 Player of The Week award and spearheaded the Alouettes’ offence in the tight match-up at Percival Molson Stadium on Thursday night.

DL – Calgary Stampeders

Calgary Stampeders 17 @ Saskatchewan Roughriders 10

Calgary Stampeders defensive lineman Charleston Hughes was named the Defensive Player of the Week for Week Nine. Hughes had one tackle, two sacks, one interception and two forced fumbles in the Stampeders’ 17-10 win over the Saskatchewan Roughriders. Hughes was a thorn in the side of Darian Durant and the rest of the Riders offence all day as he earned his first 2012 Player of the Week award.

Gibson’s Finest CFL Special Teams Player of the Week

WR/KR – Hamilton Tiger-Cats

Hamilton Tiger-Cats 29 @ Montreal Alouettes 31

Hamilton Tiger-Cats kick returner Chris Williams was named the Special Teams Player of the Week for Week Nine. Williams returned two punts for 76 yards, including a 70-yarder for a touchdown, in the Ticats 31-29 loss to the Montreal Alouettes.

Williams’ touchdown on Thursday night tied him with Henry Williams, Bashir Levingston and Keith Stokes for the most kick returns for a touchdown in a CFL season with five.

Jon Cornish
RB – Calgary Stampeders

Calgary Stampeders 17 @ Saskatchewan Roughriders 10

Calgary Stampeders running back Jon Cornish was named the Canadian Player of the Week for Week Nine. Cornish registered a game-high 159 yards on 24 carries in the Calgary 17-10 win over the Saskatchewan Roughriders. The New Westminster, B.C native was relied upon for the entire game on a windy day at Mosaic Stadium that increased the importance of an effective ground game.
