3 CHEETAHS RECEIVE ATHLETIC EXCELLENCE BURSARIES FROM ALS


Vanier Football Cheetahs James Sifakis, JΓ©rΓ©mi Roch and Byron Archambault (seen from left to right) were awarded bursaries from the Quebec Foundation for Athletic Excellence Bursary program on the evening of Thursday, August 19th at Molson stadium by Montreal Alouettes’ president Larry Smith.

The purpose of the bursaries is to encourage top-level athletes to remain in Quebec to study as well as for them to pursue professional careers in sports.

James Sifakis was one of four Cheetahs named to the World team which played against USA Football’s junior national team on January 30, 2010 in Florida. Previously In 2009, James won the league’s Academic Award with a stellar R-Score of 34.16 and also won an Academic Achievement Award in 2010 from Vanier for maintaining an average of over 90%.

JΓ©rΓ©mi Roch and Byron Archambault were also awarded bursaries from the Als for their excellent play over the past 2 years. They, too, were members of last year’s Junior World team. Among their many achievements, at the league Awards on December 12, 2009, JΓ©rΓ©mi Roch was named top quarterback, Offensive MVP and overall MVP while Byron Archambault won for his position as well as the Defensive MVP Award. At Vanier’s Athletic Awards Banquet, JΓ©rΓ©mi won the Male Athlete of the Year award and Football MVP – Offence while Byron won the Cheetah Leadership Award as well as the Football MVP – Defence
