32 ‘Football Canada Cup’ alumni participate in tomorrow’s CJFL CANADIAN BOWL

The Canadian Bowl (the Canadian Junior Football League’s National Championship game) between the Saskatoon Hilltops and Hamilton Hurricanes will feature 32 Football Canada Cup (FCC) alumni. In addition to the Canadian Bowl on November 12 at Ivor Wynne Stadium, Hamilton will also play host to the next year’s edition of the Canada Cup, slated for July 2012.

The FCC is a week-long event, intended to showcase and develop the best under-18 players from across Canada. The structure of the event has evolved over the years from a 19 and under, to an under-19 (U19) event, expanding to a second U17 division (in 2004) and finally merging (in 2010) to its current single U18 format. The U18 format supports the Long Term Athlete Development (LTAD) model as well as the growth and player development within each province. Despite structural changes, what has remained consistent is the opportunity this event gives players as they prepare to move on to the next stage of their careers, football or otherwise.

Other objectives of the FCC include fostering National unity and experiencing different Canadian cultures, the promotion and development of consistent delivery systems, programs and rules among all provinces as well as to encourage athletes to continue playing amateur football in Canada at the Junior (CJFL, QJFL) or University (CIS) level.

Below is a list of the FCC alumni participating in the 2011 Canadian Bowl.
