4 Fun Facts About The CFL

The CFL, also known as the Canadian Football League, is a professional sports league in Canada. Not only that, it is the highest level of competition in Canadian football, and is bound to be filled with a lot of fun and unexpected moments. Even if you are the biggest football fan, there might be some things you don’t know about the league.

About the CFL

The CFL tournament is called the Grey Cup and consists of nine teams in total, and they are all located in each city in Canada. The nine teams are divided into two divisions, the East Division with four teams, and the West Division with five teams. When you are watching the CFL, you can bet on whatever division you want, and even do crypto betting. If so, you should look up a list of the main crypto betting sites before you start. Then you can bet on some of the fun happenings.

  • A Small Price To Pay

Today the Grey Cup is the biggest sporting event in Canada, and it attracted a whopping 7.9 million viewers in total during the 108th cup. However, it was not always viewed as big, nor valuable. The Grey Cup was reportedly donated for $48 by former Governor General Earl Grey in 1909.

  • The American Appearing

While the CFL today is played strictly by Canadian teams, the league had a short expansion to the United States in 1995. This event led to an American team winning the cup, and now there is one non-Canadian football team that can call themselves winners of the CFL.

  • The Six Mishaps

A big part of the CFL is of course the legendary trophy. It looks too heavy to carry and has been hurt a couple of times during its years of life. Six times to be exact. One of the mishaps happened when an Edmonton Eskimo player sat on the trophy in 1987, which it could not carry. Another was when a player from Blake Dermott headbutted the trophy in 1993.

  • As Old As Time

The Grey Cup has been around for a long time, and after this year’s cup in late November, it has been played 108 times. The first-ever Grey Cup took place in 1909 and was played between the University of Toronto Varsity Blues and the Parkdale Canoe Club. This makes the cup much older than the Super Bowl, which was first played almost 60 years later in 1967.

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
