7on7: British Columbia section RULES

  1.     All US High School rules apply where needed. All penalties will be administered accordingly.
  2.     Seven on seven, no pads football, one hand touch (below the neck).
  3.     No blocking – however, it is the defensive player’s responsibility to avoid contact. (ie. an offensive player could set a screen/pick downfield after a reception, provided his feet are not moving and he doesn’t initiate contact. Blocking foul will result in a 5 yard penalty from spot of foul and loss of down.
  4.     All fumbles that touch the ground are dead.
  5.     Bump and run/press coverage is permitted within 5 yards of the L.O.S., as per US High School rules. Contact must be below the neck and cannot be excessive.
  6.     Draw plays are allowed until the offense reaches the 10 yard line, but only by running backs (must be between the tackles). Screens and shovel passes are also legal, but no blocking (see rule #3).
  7.     Backs must release outside the tackles on all pass routes, except on play-action passes.
  8.     Any no-huddle offense must be run without a coach on the field. Coaches must be out of the defensive secondary. All extra players must be on the sidelines at all times.
  9.     Any flagrant foul or unsportsmanlike conduct can result in player and/or team disqualification.
  10.     All profanity is to be controlled by the coaches and could result in a penalty. All officials are volunteers, therefore any complaints should be directed to the tournament directors. Any abuse of officials could result in the forfeiture of a game or disqualification from the tournament.

GAME ADMINISTRATION

  1.     All games are 30 minutes long (running time) . Each team will have one timeout per game.
  2.     Offenses may finish a series (ie. no additional first downs) started before time expires in the second half only if they are scrimmaging inside the 20 yard line when time expires and if they have a chance to tie or win.
  3.     Teams will be given a 2 minute warning at end of game.
  4.     A coin flip will determine which team has first possession.
  5.     Games will be played on a 45 yard field – all drives will start on the 45 yard line.
  6.     Offense has 30 seconds to put the ball into play as per US High school rules.
  7.     QB’s will have 4 seconds to throw the ball. All teams must use a center (not eligible). A sack will be a five yard loss and loss of down.
  8.     Three downs to make 10 yards until you reach the 20 yard line. Once the offensive team scrimmages first down from inside the 20 yard line, they will get four downs to make 10 yards (Four down territory).
  9.     If a game is tied at the end of regulation, each team will receive one offensive play from the 5 yard line. If neither team scores, the team with the best result will be declared the winner (ie. 2 yard gain beats an incomplete pass). If the results are the same, the process will be repeated until a winner is determined. These points will not be used as part of tie-breaking process.

SCORING

  1.     Seven points for a touchdown. If you chose to try a PAT (from 3 yard line) and are successful you will receive an additional point (8), if you fail you will lose a point (6).
  2.     If the offense advances beyond the 20 yard line on a drive which doesn’t end in a touchdown, they will receive one point (no point awarded if the drive ends in an interception, or if a penalty/sack moves the ball back outside the 20 yard line).
  3.     An interception is worth 2 points to the defense. If it is returned to the 45 yard line the defense will receive an additional 1 point.
  4.     If an interception is returned beyond the 45 yard line on a PAT attempt the defense will receive 1 point. Otherwise, no points for interceptions on PAT attempts.
