Top 2021 CFL Free Agents Signed 

The 2021 CFL free agency officially commenced on Tuesday, February 9, 2021, and boy, the teams were up for the task. The free agency was filled with top names with some poised to make any team a championship contender. Some teams re-signed their prospects and veterans while others were quickly grabbed by the active teams. The 2021 CFL season doesn’t start until June 20, 2021, but a quick look at bet-bonuscode.ca sets the mood and anticipation of the new season. With over a week gone, who are these top free agents signed? 

The first major prospect who had every team trying to get his signature was quarterback Jeremiah Masoli of the Hamilton Tiger-Cats. With his great profile and presence ready to change any team, the Tiger-Cats were quick to re-sign their player and he was off the board on the first day. The Hamilton would proceed to re-sign receiver Brian Jones on the second day who has recorded great numbers in his 43 CFL career games with the Toronto Argonauts, Roughriders, and Hamilton. 

Montreal Alouettes got into the market to make a statement and on the first day, they had reached agreements with six of the free agents. The second day saw them continue from where they stopped with five more players signed to the team. The most notable names include receiver Regis Cibasu, offensive lineman Jason Lauzon-Seguin, defensive lineman Almondo Sewell, linebacker Alexandre Chevrier, and defensive back Kerfalla-Emmanuel Exume. 

In Edmonton, receiver Kenny Shaw was brought back into the fold on the second day. He had joined the team in 2019 but injuries led him to miss the season. In his 25 CFL career games with the Argonauts, Ottawa Redblacks, and Roughriders, he has recorded 94 catches for 1223 yards and 5 touchdowns. 

On to the Saskatchewan Roughriders, the second day saw them re-sign a veteran, Jon Ryan, after becoming a free agent on the first day. After his long stint with the Seattle Seahawks in the NFL, where he won a Super Bowl, last year saw him record his first CFL 48.8-yard average with the Roughriders. He joins offensive lineman Evan Johnson and defensive tackle Micah Johnson who were signed on the first day. 

Receiver Daniel Peterman also found a new home in Ottawa Redblacks on the second day. This is a great addition to the squad in the offensive department. The 5-foot-11 receiver reunites with head coach Paul LaPolice having worked together at Winnipeg. In his 36 career games with Winnipeg, Peterman registered 25 catches for 272 yards and 2 touchdowns. 

In Winnipeg, receiver Bryant Mitchell agreed to terms with the Blue Bombers on Wednesday. He had previously spent his last two seasons in the NFL with the Buccaneers and the Cardinals. Before that, he had spent three seasons with the Edmonton team. 

The Calgary Stampeders were also in the market and on Wednesday, they re-signed defensive back, Ashton Lampkin. He had signed with the team last year but after the COVID pandemic, he opted out of the team. 

Top prospects in Henoc Muamba, Cameron Judge, Larry Dean, Patrick Levels, and Justin Tuggle are still in the free agency market with teams yet to sign them up.
