CFL FREE AGENCY DAY ONE AND TWO

The first day of free agency in the CFL was like someone had let the bulls loose from the pen, with teams rushing to get their price while it was still up for grabs. The biggest name on the board was arguably Hamilton quarterback Jeremiah Masoli, who can sling it with anyone in the league. His presence can turn any team into instant contenders, but Hamilton knew that and did not waste time signing him to an extension. The CFL 2020 season may not have taken off, but the 2021 iteration is in the works, and the guess is, after the players, fans, and punters read this Betway Super Bowl articletheir energy for the upcoming season will shoot through the roof.

The second day of free agency was not as exciting as the first, however, with a few of the biggest names already off the board. One name that is off the board but will not be going to any team is 10-year veteran Solomon Elimimian, who decided it was time to hang the cleats. The Montreal Alouettes made quite the splash signing defensive lineman Almondo Sewell. General Manager, Danny Macioca, had talked about bolstering the defense, and he set himself to work with additions of Chris Ackie, Patrick Levels, Nick Usher, and Michael Wakefield. The team also retained the services of Woody Baron, which should see their defense potential ramp up in a spike.

The first and second day ended with two of the biggest prospects on the board, linebackers Cameron Judge and Henoc Muamba remained without contracts or any buzz.

In Winnipeg, the Blue Bombers opened the second day of free agency by signing former NFL receiver Bryant Mitchell, which should now see them six deep at that position, adding to the likes of Rasheed Bailey, Drew Wolitarsky, Kenny Lawler, Nic Demski, and Darvin Adams. Mitchell is yet to hit his full stride in the CFL due to shaky health, but there is no denying he still has plenty in the tank and can easily be the number one option for Winnipeg. Ottawa was also on the prowl, signing Daniel peterman, who will be a great addition to their receiver group and offense. The Montreal Alouettes were not done as well after an interesting first day of signings, adding a few more names to their roster, including linebacker Alexandre Chevrier, offensive lineman Jason Lauzon-Seguin, receiver Regis Cibasu, defensive back Kerfalla-Emmanuel Exume, and Pierre-Luc Caron. Hamilton was also in on the second-day action, snapping up receiver Brian Jones, while Edmonton offered Kenny Shaw a new contract. With a lot of good names, and a few great names still available on the board, there is still much to come from this intriguing free agency market.
