2026 CFC50 High School Rankings WEEK 5: Holy Cross paint Kingston green

TOP HEADLINES

  • Any doubt about who still runs Juvenile DI was put to rest for now with Saint-Jean-Eudes breezing past CollΓ¨ge Bourget in a dominant 35-0 shutout to improve their record to 5-0. The Condors are on a generational run in the past three seasons winning three straight Bol d’Or while racking up a 34-3 record in the process, and at this point in the campaign, it’s hard to imagine anybody knocking them off their perch. But that’s why we play the games, and with the target only getting bigger every time they step on the field, the Condors players and coaches know these type of wins are going to be harder to achieve as the temperatures start to drop and playoffs approach. They have two tough tests coming up against Charles-Lemoyne sitting at 3-2, and St-FranΓ§ois, who have now won three straight and seem to be gaining confidence every time they step on the field.

  • We’ve gotta go back to pre-pandemic days for the last time this sentence was written; Holy Cross have defeated Frontenac in Kingston. It was an absolute shootout with neither team slowing down from start to finish, and it was the Saints who were able to get the final laugh in a monumental 42-35 victory. It’s the type of win that can shift the entire culture at a program with Holy Cross being in the chase position for so long, but now the question turns to how do you react when you finally reach the summit. They’re the temporary kings of the mountain for now, but more than likely Frontenac will be back for revenge come playoff time.
  • And still they rise. When you make the decision to move up divisions, you dream of keeping your winning culture alive despite the jump in talent level. Dreams usually don’t match reality, at least not immediately, but Robert Bateman are writing their own script at the AAA level in British Columbia coming off another massive 28-21 victory over the defending champs Lord Tweedsmuir in their regular season opener. The Timberwolves now have a 12-3 record since joining the top ranks last season, and they have the chance to claim the top spot for BC ranked schools this week with another marquee contest against Vancouver College. While their AAA history against each other is brief, it has been dramatic with the Fighting Irish defeating the Timberwolves 20-17 in overtime to open last season, and then they also brought their campaign to a painful end with a 10-6 playoff victory. This edition of Vancouver College look a lot stronger out of the gates then they did a year ago coming off a 36-14 win against G.W. Graham, so this will be the ultimate challenge to see where Robert Bateman currently stand in the race to BC Place.

CFC100 CLASS 2027 RANKINGS

  • When you look at the recent history of New Brunswick high school football, Riverview have been the class of the province appearing in four straight finals while winning three. On the other end of the spectrum, it’s been a long time since Harrison Trimble have had the chance to even compete for a provincial title with their last finals appearance coming in 2009, and they haven’t managed to win it all since 2001. Well this group of Trojans can begin to dream about being the chosen one’s to end the 25 year drought after improving their record to 4-0 with a 22-0 shutout victory against Riverview. Of course the coaches won’t want them to start thinking big picture and historical context at the beginning of October, especially after they ran the table in the regular season before flaming out in the playoffs last year. But we are certainly allowed to talk about potentially seeing a new program claim the throne in New Brunswick where only three teams have won the provincial title dating back to 2015. The next step in the journey is a big one with a chance to earn some revenge against Moncton, who knocked them out of the race last year and also enter the contest undefeated at 3-0.

  • We wrap up this week’s coverage in beautiful Thunder Bay where Hammarskjold have taken control of first place in the division after a 26-8 victory against the defending champs St. Ignatius. A lot of leagues around the country see the same teams dominate year after year, but Thunder Bay is a different beast where we’ve seen all four teams win the championship in the past four years, and no team has repeated since St. Ignatius in 2015-2016. Obviously Hammarskjold would love to see that trend continue this season, while St. Ignatius will be heading back to the drawing board to figure out how they retain their crown. Luckily for them with such a small division they will have another shot against the Vikings in the regular season before the situation becomes do-or-die.
