- We’ve got a new leader in the OUA clubhouse after Queen’s were able to outgun Western in a 41-30 shootout. If you’re a fan of untethered offensive football where playing defence is optional, than this contest was an all-time classic with both teams combining for over 900 yards. The Gaels came out of the gates hot taking a 24-13 lead into halftime, but the Mustangs found their stride in the third quarter battling back to retake the lead 29-27. Unfortunately that was the best it was going to get with Queen’s showing no fear putting together a dominate fourth quarter performance to take full control of first place in the OUA as we hit the homestretch. The Gaels offensive outburst was led by QB Alex Vreeken, who finished the day with 404 yards on 27 completions with two touchdown tosses to WR Russell Weir, who tallied up seven catches for 138 yards. They can celebrate for now, but the road to the playoffs will be treacherous for Queen’s with their remaining three games coming against top ten ranked Windsor, Guelph and McMaster.

- The first quarter was all Thunderbirds taking an early 14-3 lead, but UBC couldn’t find a way to slow down Saskatchewan for 60 minutes with the Huskies scoring two lates touchdowns to secure the 34-24 victory. It’s the type of loss that’ll leave UBC kicking themselves all the way back to British Columbia, but once they watch the film they’ll find there was more positives than negatives against one of the top programs in the nation despite the final result. The main culprit for their downfall was a gritty fourth quarter performance by Huskies RB Aulain Penner, who only touched the ball eight times out of the backfield all night, but made the most of his carries in clutch time scoring two majors in the final five minutes to complete the comeback. Saskatchewan now have full control of the division heading into their bye week at 4-1, while UBC find themselves in the thick of a playoff battle tied with Manitoba for second place, while Calgary and Regina are trying to scrape their way into the final playoff spot with just three games left on the schedule.

- It was almost a magical night for Sherbooke, but they couldn’t overcome Montreal’s depth with the Carabins battling through injuries to come away with a slim 23-17 victory. The Carabins will be happy they managed to avoid the upset, but the question is at what cost with star QB Pepe Gonzalez and his favourite target WR Enrique Jaimes-Leclair both leaving the game in the third quarter. The bright side is that backup QB Esteban Bedoya stepped up with a brilliant performance off the bench completing 12/15 passes for 167 yards and one touchdown, while RB Merton ThΓ©agΓ¨ne helped put the team on his back rushing for 116 yards on 18 carries. There’s no reports about the severity of their star offensive weapons injuries, but there’s no reason to doubt that the Carabins have the depth to overcome the adversity if they are out long term.
