On May 12th, the newest brand in football, Dirty Cleatz, launched their clothing line and held their inaugural combine at St. Michaelโs College School. Although the weather was less than cooperative, a group of approximately 30 players from the Metro Toronto Area came out to show off their speed and skill.
Dirty Cleatz founders Jansen Shrubb and Carlo Onorati started the brand in order to fill a gap they saw in the competitive athletic apparel market.
โCompanies such as Nike or Under Armor do an excellent job with athletic apparel and equipment,โ says Shrubb, โbut they donโt offer casual apparel that players can wear on occasions where athletic apparel isnโt really acceptable.โ
The theme for much of the clothing is โKings of Campusโ, which is the image that Dirty Cleatz wants for itself. โOur goal is for the football community to embrace Dirty Cleatz as the company that represents their lifestyle,โ explains Shrubb.
Onorati and Jansen were inspired to start a combine in order to establish a โmarqueโ combine in the city and shed more light on spring football as a whole. ย The combine was supported by Sports Specific Training and Football University.
About 30 players from around the city took part in the combine, of which Upper Canada Collegeโs Chris Amoah won the MVP title, and was offered an invitation to Football Universityโs Combine in San Antonio, Texas later this summer. Amoah is ninth on CFCโs Top 100 list, and was a valuable asset to the UCC Bluesโ 2012 season. Other notable performances included wide receiver Andrew Facun-Gragasin who ran the 20 yard shuttle in 4.20.
According to Shrubb there are, โNo other companies in Toronto doing anything like we are.โ
Onorati and Shrubb will be leading the Varsity Toronto Jr. Argonauts as head and assistant coach for the 2013 OFC season.
