2026 CFC50 High School Rankings WEEK 8: Westmount and Oakridge shake up the rankings in Ontario

TOP HEADLINES

  • When you’re in the rankings business, you gotta get used to the taste of crow and learn how to eat it with a smile on your face. Well, we were served a heaping portion of crow by Westmount this week after they demolished previously top 20 ranked Westdale 45-7 in their regular season finale to clinch the top seed in the Hamilton Public playoffs. While we pick the feathers out of our teeth, we’d like to be the first to admit we should’ve had the Wildcats ranked a long time ago. On the bright side, there’s now no disputing who the best team is in the Hamilton Public league, and it looks like anybody else who underestimates Westmount the rest of the way will be in for a rude awakening. They still need to power through the playoffs with Saltfleet and Westdale dreaming about a potential rematch, but right now we’ve got Westmount as our new team to beat in SOSSA this season.

  • Another program who we hadn’t figured out yet this season was Centennial in British Columbia, who we just dropped off the rankings last week. Well, guess who’s back in the fold after securing a gritty 7-6 victory over the defending champions Lord Tweedsmuir to improve their overall record to 6-1 on the season. This win says a lot about this edition of the Centaurs, who many probably thought would fall out of contention with their star QB and RB graduating to U Sports, but the reports of their demise were greatly exaggerated. The reason we were questioning if they were true contenders this year was because of their opening loss at the hands of G.W. Graham, but since then they’ve ripped off six straight victories, and have a real chance to run the table in the regular season with two games left on the schedule against Seaquam and Terry Fox. Do they have the horses to run with the likes of Vancouver College or Robert Bateman? That’s yet to be seen, but when you consider Lord Tweedmuir only other loss this season was against Bateman in a one score game, then maybe the Centaurs have what it takes to make a deep playoff run if they continue on the same trajectory.
  • Over the year we’ve talked a lot about the high school football scene in London. During those discussions, one program who’s usually played a background supporting role was Oakridge. Well, the cast has changed in 2026, and the Oaks are now competing for the spotlight coming off a monumental 36-16 victory over South in their regular season finale to secure the top seed in the TVRA Darnell Division. It’s been quite the journey for Oakridge, and in the beginning it looked like the same old story after falling 10-9 to Parkside in week one. Little did we know that was actually the turning point with the Oaks following up with a huge 18-17 victory over A.B. Lucas, which many chalked up to an upset instead of giving the Oaks the credit they deserved, and that’s includes us. They then went on to beat St. Andre Bessette, Laurier, and now South, who many had as the second best to in London midway through the season. Who knows how far this magical run will take them, but we do know we’ve got a new hierarchy heading into the playoffs, and the Oaks have earned the right to dream about being the one’s to knock off Catholic Central this season.

CFC100 CLASS 2027 RANKINGS

  • We had another unexpected result in the Peel region with David Suzuki coming to life at the perfect time to hand Robert F. Hall their first loss of the year in a 28-24 decision. ROPSSAA has always been a league where the margin for error is razor thin between the four Tier I programs, but you can’t blame anybody who was caught off guard after Robert F. Hall blanked Suzuki 20-0 in their first meeting this season. This result sets up a juicy playoff bracket with a potential rubber match between Robert F. Hall and Suzuki in the finals, but don’t count out St. Roch, who have a chance to get their bearings straight with a game against Suzuki to wrap up their regular season campaign, and then another chance in the semifinals.
  • For the first time in school history, W.H. Croxford are making an appearance on the CFC50 rankings. They will also be raising their first league banner after clinching a historic 22-7 victory over Cochrane in the Rocky View championship. It’s an amazing accomplishment for a program that was founded just 11 years ago, and back then it was nothing but a dream to some day knock off the mighty Cochrane Cobras. Well, the day has finally arrived, but the dream doesn’t stop with Cochrane. The Cavaliers will now move on to the ZONE 2 finals where they’ll faceoff against Foothills with an opportunity to earn a spot in the 5A provincial playdowns in November.

  • Elsewhere in Alberta, it was a very strange ending to a very strange season so far in Calgary with Centennial defeating top seed Notre Dame, and Bowness scoring a massive win against St. Francis to leap frog them for the third seed in the playoff bracket. It was a huge moral win for Centennial, who will be handing in their equipment with a smile on their face despite missing the playoffs with a 1-5 record. We are willing to give Notre Dame the pass because they already had the top seed wrapped up which meant preserving their health was much more important than their perfect record. Now there’s no more room for passes with Bowness taking on Bishop Carroll, and St. Francis looking to keep their season alive against Lord Beaverbrook in the quarterfinals. Notre Dame and Ernest Manning will be waiting on the other side.
  • We end off this week with a peek into the world of Nova Scotia high school football, where Charles P. Allen have completed another perfect regular season with a dominant 40-13 victory over previously unbeaten Auburn Drive. The Cheetahs have now won 16 straight games dating back to last year, and at this point it’s hard to believe anybody has what it takes to steal their crown this season. We don’t want to anoint them too soon, but we are breaching the territory where we can begin to talk about this two year run by Charles P. Allen being one of the best we’ve ever seen in Nova Scotia.
