BLOG: Thursday Sacks (5)

Welcome/Bonjour to yet another edition of Thursday Sacks. It has been an enjoyable first four weeks of the season where we can tell which team is rocking and which teams are not. The top teams in the CIS are Laval, Western and Calgary while teams like the Bishop Gaiters have not reach their potential yet. This blog post will explain who my top defensive performances were this week as I observe box scores from last week action.

Manitoba Bisons fourth year defensive lineman, David Onyemata.
Onyemata was named the top CIS player who is eligible for the 2016 CFL draft, a while back. He proved why he is a special type of player in Manitoba, 42-32 win over Alberta on Sunday night. Onyemata had eight solo tackles along with one for a loss of five yards. Onyemata has 17.5 tackles in four games and also 2 and half sacks. Onyemata has a great chance to be a high first round pick in the upcoming CFL draft.

Mont Allison Mounties second year defensive back, Nate Rostek.
Rostek had a solid game in the 31-7 lost to the Sherbrooke Vert et Or. Rostek had seven solo tackles, four assists for a total of nine tackles in the game. He also had one fumble recovery as well. Rostek this season has recorded 16 tackles this year in three games.

Windsor Lancers first year linebacker, Matt Chamberlain. Chamberlain was a star in the Lancers getting their first win of the season over Laurier. Chamberlain had seven solo tackles and seven assists on tackles for a total of 10.5 tackles in the win. Matt this season has 17.5 tackles and one fumble recovery.

Ottawa Gee-Gees fourth year linebacker, Brendan Beaudry.
Beaudry was the only bright spot for the Gee-Gees in their 48-26 lost at the hands of the Guelph Gryphons. Brendan had six solo tackles, seven assists for a total of 9.5 tackles. He also had a sack for a loss of six yards. Beaudry had 15.5 tackles in four games already. Beaudry is the veteran leader in the Gee-Gees defense.

Laval Rouge et Or first year defense lineman, Marc-A. Ouellet.
Ouellett in the Laval win over STFX had a good day at the office as he had two solo tackles and three assists for a total of 3.5 tackles. Ouellet had two sacks for a loss of 15 yards in the game as well. The rookie could be in the running for RSEQ defensive rookie of the year because of his hot start to the year. He has 10.5 tackles and 3.5 sacks in four games this season.

Calgary Dinos third year linebacker, Doctor Cassama.
Cassama had a solid game in the Dinos’s victory over the Regina Rams. Cassama had eight solo tackles, two assists for a total of nine tackles in the game. He also had a one sack for a loss of three yards. He has 23.5 tackles this season in four games.

Saskatchewan Huskies first year linebacker, Justin Filteau.
Justin Filteau was a superstar in the Huskies victory over UBC. Filteau had nine solo tackles, eight assists for a total of 13 tackles. He also had two forced fumbles as well in the game, one of them was return for a touchdown.
