SMU season in jeopardy, investigated for another ineligible player

St. Mary’s University being investigated for another possible ineligible player

St. Mary’s University’s season may be in jeopardy due to the fact that they may have played another ineligible player.

As reported by CTV Atlantic, the Atlantic University Sport body is investigating whether or not starting receiver Archelaus Jack, was eligible to play. Jack was still listed on the practice roster for the Saskatchewan Roughriders last year. As per U Sports rules, a player with CFL opportunities cannot play for 365 days after August 15. Jack was released Oct. 11, 2016. He has played five games for the Huskies after this Aug. 15th date.

SMU wasΒ reported for playing an ineligible player earlier in the season and conceded one win and their record, at that time, was changed from 5-0 to 4-1. StFX was awarded the win. SMU was also fined and put on probation for a period of 18 months, but would be subject to more sanctions should any other violations occur.

The AUS states the semifinal game being played today between SMU and StFX will go on as planned as there isn’t time to complete the investigation beforehand.

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
