Academics an important factor for LB Engel

Jayden Engel joined his local youth football program because he watched his older brother play when he was younger. “I’m a very competitive person so football gives me that opportunity to compete at the highest level,” he replied.

The best football moment in Jayden’s football career was in his freshman year because he was able to play varsity football with his brother who was a senior at the time.

Vincent Massey’s standout linebacker enjoys his position because of the physicality.

Jayden says his edge is his work ethic. He explained, “I’m constantly working out and trying to be the best possible version of myself.”

Jayden’s favourite plays to defend against are screen passes because you get to come downfield and blow up the running back.

The young linebacker from Brandon Manitoba hasn’t modeled his game after any players.

Before every game Jayden likes to listen to motivational speaker Inky Johnson.

Once he graduates from high school Jayden’s future plans are to play at the next level, but most importantly Jayden would like to attend a school with good academics to pursue a business degree.

Jayden has been having a lot of fun with the recruitment process, he added, “It’s very humbling. There was virtually nothing before Canada Cup but since then it’s really picked up and I couldn’t be more grateful.”

Currently Jayden hasn’t committed to any post-secondary schools, but he is considering all offers.

If he were to make the next level of football Jayden wants to be the hardest worker and to take pride in it. It doesn’t matter what position he’s in, whether it be red shirting or starting.

Jayden thinks he would be able to adjust fairly easy to the next level because he’s going to train physically and mentally to help make the process as easy as possible.

The Vikings’ defensive playmaker tries to be a leader on and off the field. Jayden also tries to lead by example, and be enthusiastic.

Jayden’s coaches, friends and family have all been very supportive over this whole recruitment process and Jayden appreciates them all very much.
