Acadia releases second recruiting class (VIDEO 3x)

The Axemen football coaching staff are hard at work releasing round two of recent football recruits who ahve committed to attending Acadia in the fall of 2011.

Head coach Jeff Cummins points out that the recent addition centers more on the offensive side of the ball. “β€œThese seven guys who have made a commitment to Acadia over the last couple of weeks help cover us in the offensive backfield, defensive backfield and in the trenches. We needed to address the Fullback position and we have done that with a proven commodity in Reed Anderson who transfers to Acadia from Saint Mary’s. Lucas Gheorghe, a Nose Tackel is a big raw kid with a huge upside and will bring us some more size on Defense. Adding 6’4 Charters and 6’3 Morris to the offensive line will give us size and depth in the trenches. We are really excited about this crew and will have more to come in the very near future.”

Derek Wodz – RB, 6’3”, 185 lbs., Sir John A Macdonald (Halifax, N.S.)[PICTURE]
Derek is a talented downhill runner who catches the ball well out of the backfield. While leading the running attack for Sir John A high school, Derek was named a first team all star, and earned the Scotia division offensive Most Valuable Player this past season. Derek’s versatility will be a welcomed addition to the Axemen backfield.

Lucas Gheorghe – NT, 6’4″, 260 lbs., Sir John A Macdonald (Halifax, N.S.)
Lucas brings size and athleticism to the Acadia defensive line. Lucas has only played a few years of organized football. He has a great burst off the ball and causes problems inside for offenses. Lucas has a tremendous upside, and will add depth to our defensive line as he pushes to get on the field.
Ethan Charters – OL, 6’5”, 250 lbs., Oromocto HS (Burton, N.B.)
Ethan is a tough and physical lineman who gets off the ball well. Ethan was named to the first team South Western conference all star in New Brunswick last season. His size and athletic ability will give him an opportunity to compete and push for playing time right away.

Jordan Morris – OL, 6’3”, 270 lbs., Saint Thomas Moore HS (Port Coquitlam, B.C.)
Jordan is a big athletic offensive tackle from the traditionally strong Saint Thomas Moore football program. Jordan, who also plays goalie for his lacrosse team, will add some much needed depth to the offensive line and compete for early playing time at the tackle position this fall.

Skyler Fines- HB, 5’9″, 195 lbs., Bowmanville High School (Newcastle, Ont.)
Skyler is a hard working, tenacious competitor, with great leadership skills. He is a physical and relentless hitter, who always finds the football; reminiscent of former Axemen Elliott Richardson who now plays for the Edmonton Eskimos. Skyler will add depth to an already strong Axemen secondary; his work ethic and ability to play special teams will make him an asset for years to come.

Reed Anderson- FB/LS, 6’1″, 230 lbs., Transfer from Saint Mary’s (Orillia, Ont.)
Reed is transferring from the Saint Mary’s University Huskies where he started as a fullback in 2009. Reed had a tryout with the Montreal Alouettes in 2010, and will be enrolling in the Bachelor of Education program at Acadia. Reed is a dominating blocker and a tremendous special teams player and is expected to compete for the starting fullback job this season.

Dylan Hines – FB, 5’10”, 230 lbs., St. Mark HS (Ottawa, Ont.)
Dylan is an athletic and versatile fullback who has played a variety of different positions including quarterback. Dylan is a dimensional fullback who is a strong blocker, but is also a good ball carrier and catches the ball well out of the backfield. Dylan will look to make an impact this fall as he helps to fill a need for the Axemen at the fullback spot as the Axemen look to replace two graduating seniors.
