Montreal – Tony Addona is the new Offensive Line Coach of the Montreal Carabins.
With more than 25 years as an offensive coach, including several in charge of the offensive line, Addona replaces Alain Mainguy who recently left due to family priorities as well as a return to the academic community.
“I am very excited and enthusiastic about this new challenge in my coaching career,β said Addona. βWe will rely on a large group of young people full of potential and I look forward to contributing to their development.β
βIt is also a sort of homecoming for me since I spent most of my career in an offensive coach role, and was mainly involved in Carabins special teams units in the past two seasons. I am very comfortable in this role and I have several things in common with Marco (Iadeluca, Offensive Coordinator).Β There is no exception, the offensive attack begins with the offensive line and we will work closely together to continue the system put in place for the past two years.”
From 1984 to 2001, Addona has experienced great success with the Champlain-Lennoxville Cougars as an Offensive Line Coach, Offensive Coordinator and Head Coach, winning eight Bol DβOr championships in 11 appearances.
In 1989, he coordinated the offensive attack at Bishop’s Gaiters University before returning in 2002 until 2011. During that period, he led the Gaiters’ Offensive Line for six seasons and was coordinated the offensive during five seasons, while Head Coach in 2004 and 2011. In 2005 and 2006 he was also Offensive Coordinator for the Canadian team at the World Junior Championships where he won top honors alongside Maciocia who acted as Head Coach.
During his career, Addona also took part in three training camps with the Edmonton Eskimos of the Canadian Football League (CFL) as a guest coach, perfecting their learning primarily with the offensive line. Several of his former protΓ©gΓ©s have had impressive showings on the offensive line and have subsequently been very successful in academic and professional ranks.
“Tony is arguably the best offensive line coach we could find and is the ideal person to take control of the unit,β said Carabins Head Coach Danny Maciocia. βThe transition will be very easy, having spent last season under Alain (Mainguy) and he already knows very well our offensive system. His expertise and extensive experience will be very useful for our players. “
