The first-place Holland College Hurricanes travel to UNB Saint John on Saturday to complete their home-and-home series with the Seawolves. It is a big game for both teams with significant playoff implications.
Last Saturday, at MacAdam Field in front of the largest crowd of the season, the Hurricanes prevailed over the Seawolves 22-14 in a hard-fought game that was only decided late in the fourth quarter. UNB Saint John (2-2) is anxious for the rematch and the opportunity to move up in the standings. The Seawolves are currently tied for second place in the AFL with the UNB Fredericton Red Bombers. For the Hurricanes, a victory this weekend would clinch a first-place finish and with it the right to be a host team for league playoff action.
Holland College Head Coach Mark MacDougall is looking for another big game from his offensive line, which last week earned the APM Construction Services Player of the Game. “As a unit, they came up big and really opened up the running game for us, which was a big factor in our win. We are looking for a repeat performance from them this week,” he said.
Another key for the Hurricanes will be their defensive play, led by middle linebacker Marcus Dunphy, who earned another APM award last weekend. Dunphy, from Souris, anchors the best defense in the league at this point in the season. The Canes are limited opposing offences to just over two touchdowns per game.
Game time in Saint John is 8 p.m. at the Canada Games Stadium.
