AFL: Hurricanes prepare for final game of regular season

The final game of regular season play for the Holland College Hurricanes Football Club starts at 1 p.m. on Saturday, October 29,[SUP]th[/SUP] at MacAdam Field, UPEI, and the team is looking to continue its winning streak as it heads into the playoffs.

The opposition this weekend will be the second-place UNB (Fredericton) Red Bombers, who were upset in their last game by the Dalhousie University Tigers in Halifax. The Hurricanes are coming off a big win against UNB Saint John last weekend. The 46-23 victory clinched first place for the club and has assured them home-field advantage in the playoffs, which begin with semi-final action on November 12.

Head Coach Mark MacDougall says the Hurricanes are anticipating a fierce battle to defend their as yet untarnished league record of 5 and 0 (6 and 1 overall). “We’ve only played the Red Bombers once so far this season, and that game was a see-saw battle all the way into the final quarter. We expect that this game will be just as hard fought, and exciting for our fans,” he said.

Holland College leads the Atlantic Football League in both points scored and fewest allowed, and the team will have to have all facets of the game, including its explosive special teams, in high gear to counter a well-balanced and well-coached Red Bombers team.

Although the weather promises to be crisper than for the past few home games, fans can stay warm with some of the best tailgate food they are likely to encounter served up by chefs from The Culinary Institute of Canada. The Holland College Welshmen pep band will be there to add to the atmosphere. Admission is free for students and children, $5 for adults.

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
