Alberta announces key recruits including Raymond’s Connor Ralph

University of Alberta Golden Bears football Interim Head Coach Jeff Stead announced his key 2011 high school recruits today at a media conference at Foote Field.

Topping the recruit list this year are six Alberta products, including defensive back Brandon Foster from Harry Ainlay high school, linebackers Michael Hansen (Jasper Place high school) and Connor Ralph #33 (Raymond Comets), defensive linemen Greg Severin (St. Francis Xavier high school) and David Beard (Bev Facey), as well as runningback Tyler Lewis from Hunting Hills high school.

Ralph, brother to current Golden Bear defensive back Randon, comes to the Bears from the football hotspot that is Raymond, AB. The 5’11”, 225lbs linebacker played for the Raymond Comets, winning the provincial championship and playing in the annual North-South Senior Bowl.

Joining him in the defensive front seven are a trio of Edmonton high school football captains: Michael Hansen, a 6’1″, 190lbs linebacker who captained the Jasper Place Rebels; Gregory Severin, a 6’3″, 255lbs defensive lineman who led the St. Francis Xavier X-Men; and David Beard, who captained Bev Facey as a 6’4″, 225lbs member of the defensive line.

Brandon Foster, a 5’11”, 175lbs defensive back, rounds out the defensive recruits. He joins the U of A after leading the Harry Ainlay Titans to the provincial finals.

On the offensive side of the ball, runningback Tyler Lewis from Hunting Hills High School in Red Deer will be joining the Evergreen and Gold after serving as team captain and playing in the North-South Bowl.

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
