Alberta High School Season kicks off this weekend with some pre-season action

The 2017 Alberta High School Football Season kicks off with a string of Pre-Season Exhibition Games this week and will more or less officially start the following week as teams in the Mighty Peace, Central Alberta, Rangeland and Big Sky will feature some regular season games prior to Labor Day.

For the rest of the province, things will get busy following Labor Day for the nine weeks between then and the first weekend in November when all leagues, but Calgary wrap up their playoffs.

After that is the three week football orgy which starts with 40 teams in the quarterfinals in four Tiers and one 6-Man Division which will all be decided on Nov. 24-25 in Lacombe at the Alberta Bowl High School Football Championships.

The first Top-10 Rankings for all four Tiers of play (based on school size) and the 6-Man Division will be released following the annual Labor Day Classic between the Calgary Stampeders and the Edmonton Eskimos.Ā  Each Saturday after that we will be sending out updated rankings and their next weekā€™s opponents as well as feature games of the week.

For the Pre-Season Feature Game(s) we have what is starting to become an annual kick-off tradition where some of the top Tier I teams from Northern Alberta head south to take on L.C.I. and Raymond in their beautiful artificial turf stadiums. Ā This week we have:

Harry Ainlay (Edmonton) at Raymond
Friday, August 25, 8:00 p.m.
Comets Field (Raymond)

Salisbury (Sherwood Park) at L.C.I. (Lethbridge)
Saturday, August 26, 5:30 p.m.
University of Lethbridge Community Stadium
