Alberta high school Top 10 rankings (all 4 tiers): Week one

Here are the Weekly Top-10 Rankings for all four Tier’s of high school football in Alberta for the 2011 season. These rankings will come out every Sunday (except for Labor Day when they will come out on Tuesday) from now up until Nov. 6.

The teams are slotted into Tiers based on their estimated school size, which may change once official counts are known at the end of September. Please note that games vs. US opponents, or tournaments are not taken into consideration for ranking or listed in the overall record of the schools due to too many variables and inconsistent rules for those games.

GAMES OF THE WEEK:

Tier I

#5 Notre Dame Pride at #6 Spruce Grove Panthers
Friday, September 9, 7:00 p.m.
Fuhr Athletic Park (Spruce Grove)

Let’s just say the Spruce Grove Panthers approach to exhibition games to start the season has been…aggressive. Starting with a win over #9 L.C.I. in Lethbridge on August 27 followed by a loss to #1 Bev Facey on September 1 at home, the #6 ranked Panthers finish up their non-conference schedule this Friday with a tilt against the #5 ranked and defending Calgary Division I Champion Notre Dame Pride. In the recorded history of the Football Alberta rankings no Tier I team has ever taken on three Top-10 teams in their tier in successive weeks to start the season until the Panthers did it this year. Luckily they have a BYE the following week.

Tier III

#8 Sylvan Lake Lakers at #10 Stettler Wildcats
Thursday, September 8, 4:30 p.m.
William E. Hay High School (Stettler)

A new year and Central Alberta’s top Tier III teams get after it early. Both teams have made statements early with wins over Camrose and Lindsay Thurber respectively. Playoffs and Provincial qualifying are a long way off but this game may give some indication as to who will be the team to beat out of the Central for their single Tier III berth. Should be fun this Thursday in Stettler!

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
