GAMES OF THE WEEK:
Tier I

#6 Henry Wise Wood Warriors vs. #3 Notre Dame Pride

Thursday, October 7, 4:30 p.m.

Hellard Field at Shouldice Park (Calgary)

The defending Calgary Division I Champion Pride are the only team still unscathed in the shark tank that is their league. Similar to the SEC Conference in NCAA Football there are no weak sisters on the schedules of the teams here. Any given Thursday or Friday you will be lined up against a top quality Tier I opponent and this week is no different for Notre Dame as they take on the second place and #6[SUP]th[/SUP] ranked Warriors. After that they get St. Francis who is currently ranked #7 so you can see that any team coming out of Calgary Division I with an undefeated record at the end of the year certainly has earned it.

#8 Jasper Place Rebels vs. #5 Spruce Grove Panthers

Thursday, October 7, 5:00 p.m.

John Bright Park (Edmonton)

Watch out for the undefeated Panthers! Having competed as the Parkland Predators for the past decade, the team made up of players from Spruce Grove and Stony Plain decided last year to base themselves firmly out of Spruce Grove H.S. and are now the Panthers. The other thing they are doing that should be troubling to their Edmonton Public opponents is building through strong bantam programs including last years 2009 Provincial Tier I Bantam Champion Spruce Grove Cougars. It’s almost Raymond-esque. Coming after them this week are the Jasper Place Rebels who are still smarting after a tough 21-7 loss to #4 Harry Ainlay last Friday, but are a proven Top-10 team and will be playing the Panthers in the Rebels own back yard at John Bright Bowl.

Here are the Weekly Top-10 Rankings for all four Tier’s of high school football in Alberta for the 2010 season. These rankings will come out every Sunday (except for Labor Day when they will come out on Tuesday) from now up until Nov. 8.

The teams are slotted into Tiers based on their estimated school size, which may change once official counts are known at the end of September. Please note that games vs. US opponents, or tournaments are not taken into consideration for ranking or listed in the overall record of the schools due to too many variables and inconsistent rules for those games.

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
