Alouettes grant bursaries to 26 promising players (including 5 #CFC100)

Montreal, August 19, 2015 – To mark the 11th edition of its bursary program with the Quebec Foundation for Athletic Excellence (FAEQ), the Montreal Alouettes distributed $34,250 in bursaries to 26 of the most promising young football players in Quebec. The program, presented by RDS, invests in the sport’s future generations by providing financial support to secondary, college and university student-athletes who excel on the football field, in their academic careers, in their communities, or who are remarkable examples of perseverance.Β
Β
The student-athletes received the bursaries from Mark Weightman, Alouettes President and CEO, and StΓ©phane Boulay, RDS Senior Director of Marketing and Communications, at a ceremony at Club Sportif MAA, where several Alouettes players perfect their training. Mr. Weightman said, β€œWe are proud to support these student-athletes in pursuing their careers, both academic and in football. It has always been important for the Alouettes to invest in amateur football and this bursary program is an important initiative for our organization, because through it we can encourage young people to succeed not only on the football field, but in the classroom as well.”
Β
Five different categories of bursaries were distributed among the 26 recipients: 4 Academic Excellence bursaries, to reward exceptional academic results, 2 Leadership bursaries, to highlight community involvement, 2 Perseverance bursaries, to encourage significant academic improvement, 17 Academic and Athletic Success bursaries, to promote a healthy balance of sport and education, 1 University Recruitment bursary, to encourage a local CEGEP graduate to pursue an academic and football career in a Quebec university.
Β
The program is managed by the FAEQ and Football QuΓ©bec, in a partnership with the RΓ©seau du sport Γ©tudiant du QuΓ©bec (RESQ). β€œThe Foundation is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year, with the theme United for success” said FAEQ president, Claude Chagnon. β€œLooking at the FAEQ’s success, credibility, prestige, and thriving growth since 1985, it becomes obvious that the Montreal Alouettes have been an important partner for the past 11 years. They have been incredibly generous and enthusiastic in their beliefs, and they have been tireless at promoting their values, which are proudly shared by FAEQ. Now more than ever, the Alouettes and FAEQ are united for the academic, athletic and professional success of our remarkable student-athletes.” Mr. Chagnon attended the ceremony in the company of Bob Mironowicz, the new Football QuΓ©bec president, and Gustave RoΓ«l, RSEQ Executive director.
Β
The ceremony was presented by RDS, a prestigious communications partner of the FAEQ’s for several years. RDS airs testimonial video clips, where bursary recipients talk about their experience. RDS will also officially host the 30thanniversary Gala of the Fondation de l’athlΓ¨te d’excellence du QuΓ©bec, on November 25, 2015, at the Laval Sheraton Hotel.
