ANDREWS, LAVAUD AND MILO NAMED PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

Quarterback Jesse Andrews of the Bishop’s Gaiters, linebacker SamaΓ«l Lavaud and kicker Christopher Milo of the Laval University Rouge et Or, have been selected as the Quebec University Football League’s (QUFL) players of the week for the period ending October 10.

Highlights : Fifth-year quarterback Jesse Andrews threw for a season-high 310 yards as he led the No. 5-ranked Bishop’s Gaiters to a 40-10 victory over the Sherbrooke Vert & Or on Friday night. Andrews threw for one touchdown and ran for another as the Gaiters picked up their first win in Sherbrooke since 2003. The Pickering, Ontario native had his most productive day of the season, completing 17 of 27 passes for 310 yards, one touchdown and no interceptions. He was also the Gaiters’ leading rusher, as he carried six times for 40 yards and a touchdown. His 69-yard pass to David Haddrall early in the second quarter broke a 3-3 tie, giving the Gaiters a lead they would not relinquish, and his 11-yard touchdown run early in the fourth put the game out of reach. Altogether, Andrews accounted for 350 of the Gaiters’ 407 yards of total offence.

Highlights : Laval linebacker SamaΓ«l Lavaud recorded three solo tackles, seven assisted tackles and on quarterback sack as the No. 1-ranked Rouge et Or rallied to down the No. 7 Montreal Carabins 19-12 Saturday at CEPSUM Stadium. The first year general studies student recorded his second sack of the campaign late in the fourth quarter, dropping Carabin quarterback Alexandre Nadeau-Piuze for a three-yard loss on second-and-five at the Laval 17 yard line. The stop snuffed out a potential game-tying drive and forced Montreal to attempt a 24-yard field goal that resulted in a single.

Highlights : Fourth year kicker Chistopher Milo accounted for 11 of Laval’s 19 points in their seven point victory over the Montreal Carabins on Saturday. Milo was a perfect three-for-three in field goal attempts, splitting the uprights from 46, 30 and 31 yards and added a convert and a 74-yard rouge on a kickoff to help the top ranked Rouge et Or to their sixth consecutive win. Milo also averaged 46.9 yards on 13 punts in the contest.
