Archambault selected in second round, four Carabins drafted

Montreal Ā – Montreal Carabins linebacker Byron Archambault was selected in the second round of the CFL Draft on Tuesday night. The Hamilton Tiger-Cats made ā€‹ā€‹him the 17th overall pick.

Teammates Mikhail Davidson and Anthony Coady were selected by Montreal, while Alexander LaganiĆØre was the choice of Ottawa.

Carabins players heard the news at the annual gathering of the team at the CEPSUM’s Guy FrĆ©chette Salon.

“It was nice to live this moment with my two families, the Archambaults and the Carabins,” said Archambault. “I could not wait.”

“Before the draft, you hear some things and am pleased to be joining a team of winners. I will join my friend Mathieu Girard. I always trained intensively and I am going there to contribute and to play with very good players. ”

Girard was selected last year by the Ti-Cats before playing one final season with the Carabins in 2014.

Archambault, a 24 year old Montrealer, was ranked 14 thĀ in the CFL’s Scouting Bureau Final Rankings. This past week, the CIS First-Team All-Canadian was invited to take part in a mini-camp with the NFL’s New York Giants.

Recevier Ā Mikhail Davidson (40thĀ overall) and defensive back Anthony Coady (57th) were chosen in the fifth and seventh rounds of the draft by the Montreal Alouettes. Overall, the Alouettes have chosen six Carabins players since the return of the program in 2002, more than any other team in the CFL. The two newest Alouettes will join former Carabins Marc-Olivier Brouillette, Jonathan Beaulieu-Richard and Simon LĆ©garĆ© who are already with the team.

“It is highly motivating,” said Davidson. “I can play in my city.”

“I’m glad they have confidence in me and I have the chance to go with one of the best teammates as one could wish to have.”

Coady felt the same way.

“When I realized I had a chance to play pro, this is an idea that has taken root in my head,” said Coady.” I’m really happy to get this opportunity.”

“The Alouettes will understand why they chose me when I get on the ground. ”

Pffensive lineman Alexandre LaganiĆØre was selected by the Ottawa Redblacks in the seventh round, 54th overall. He will join former teammate Antoine Pruneau, last year’s first-round pick in the CFL Draft.

“Last year, I have been working hard and I was proud of my season,” said LaganiĆØre. “I am now part of a select group and I consider myself very lucky.”

“I wanted to take every opportunity to continue playing football.”

Since the relaunch of the football program at University of Montreal in 2002, 18 Carabins players were selected prior to this year. Last year, the Carabins had a banner year with five players selected in the CFL Draft
